amlh
Hello, we've just been offered a place at Dulwich Hamlets for our 7 year old girl, whose primary school finishes at the end of this year 2. We know nothing about Dulwich Hamlets, and can't visit, and must reply by Monday! Any advice? Would so appreciate whatever information people have. Thanks! Pugwash
Dulwich Hamlet has always had a very good reputation and is a very sought after school. When my girls were young me tried to get a place their but Barry Road was out of their catchment area. alex_b
Dulwich Hamlets is very well regarded. The old head also set up The Belham which also has a strong reputation. Both schools just joined the Charter School trust with the ED and ND Charter Schools. hammerman
Do you mean the Dulwich Hamlet Junior School in Dulwich Village original poster?I'm assuming your 7 year old is attending the Dulwich Village Infants school. I can't believe that you know nothing about either school as they are both very hard to secure a place at. dulwichfolk
Not sure if it still that hard to get into as the birth rate drops the catchments seem to be getting bigger for most infants/primaries. Going by last years distances which were posted on here somewhere. Digbina
My son attends the Hamlet. We are very happy with it and so is he. It?s well run, the teachers are kind, supportive and engaged and my son seems to have an interesting variety of lessons. Before Covid, there were lots of excursions and visits. You can get a good flavour of the school from its Twitter account. I think there was also an online ?open day?. You can probably still access it. Music is very strong. I was impressed by the Y6 children who showed us around - they were confident and articulate without being precocious and cocky. I think occasionally some parents complain that very gifted children aren?t stretched enough and remove them to the private sector. This isn?t an issue for us and in any case, I think it?s important for children not be pressured throughout primary school. Do you have specific questions?
