Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone with a child starting Y7 at East Dulwich Charter in September would like to meet up.. I know they might do an induction day in July but how about a socially distanced picnic where the kids can get to know each other a bit before starting what is quite a big transition in the autumn.

Perhaps a picnic in Peckham Rye park or Dulwich Park so lots of space to be safe in these times.

Let me know,

Thanks :)

Lovely idea - definitely keen, thank you. (Pupils currently in Southwark primaries going to Southwark secondaries will have a day in their new school on 8 July according to this document (pdf) https://localoffer.southwark.gov.uk/assets/attach/537/Transition-to-secondary-2021.pdf )

Sounds great!

I know they should have a taster day in school in July but something more informal, running around or lolling on a blanket in the park (inc for parents) would be nice I think :) I will post something again around the end of June so we can set a date...

Hi All,

I have been in contact with Jellybeanz who is no longer organising a meet up due to a change in circumstances. It would be a shame not to take their great idea and organise an informal meet-up for the kids (and parents) so I would like to suggest Sunday 25th July 2-4pm at Dulwich Park on the green outside the playground by the table tennis tables. (This should give us space and allow kids to play in playground or run around/play football etc). I'm not able to organise anything particular but I thought at least if we have a date and time we can just turn up and they can get on with it? If anyone wants to organise more, feel free!

Please PM if you plan to come.

Hi All,

More people have contacted to say they can't make this date than can! So have decided to change the date to the end of the holidays when less of the focus will be on holidays and goodbyes and more on a new start and new friends! So, same place and time (Dulwich Park 2-4pm) on Sunday 29th August (with term starting the following week).

Please PM if you plan to come.

    • I was in Forest Hill Road today, just past the Rye, and noticed there is a dentist next to the Herne (pub) that has NHS signs outside. I've never had any problems getting NHS dental treatment in East Dulwich, and I get regular check ups. I've been to three  different dental practices here over the years, all with NHS treatment. I think the difficulties are in other parts of the country. Malumbu has a good explanation above. I didn't hear the Radio 4 programme, but I'm guessing that a  radio programme is not going to have time to say where you CAN easily get NHS treatment, and is bound to focus on the negatives and the horror stories, otherwise it would be very boring! ETA: Re children's teeth, I think the major issue is not lack of dentists, it is children being given sugary food, drinks and confectionery which rots their teeth. The education of parents needs to be about this, not just about tooth brushing. And in some cases the poor diet may also be due to lack of money for healthy food. Though of course the lack of dentists doesn't help, if  the tooth rotting can't be rectified by fillings or extraction.
    • Well, I hope you like what you see, the hot air, lack of answers and continual blaming things on the last Government and the made up blackhole, I find are nauseating. The man needs to see reality, because I'd guess that if we had a snap election tomorrow and based on the first six months of this parliament, Labour would get trounced. When the election does finally happen and if that isn't before the people rise up and throw this lot out, Labour will not be voted back in for a millennium.
    • Yes thanks that's exactly the choices I get.  I will block and if somehow they find a way back I'll report.
