Hello, I'm looking for a place for my father who is lively and fun but can't really cater for himself or do his laundry etc, stay on top of medications. Does anyone have experience of Evans House on Underhill Road? Or The Elms on Barry road? Or any other options?

Thanks v much!

The Elms is brilliant. I had an aunt who lived there for several years until her death. I currently have a friend who opted to go into the Elms following her husband's death. She recently had her 90th birthday there. Staff are very helpful and friendly.

Lew Evans House is an extra sheltered unit with carers on site. If your father is renting his property he may be eligible but depends on his care needs. From what you have said - he possibility does not qualify for sheltered accommodation but needs daily carers. Make contact with Southwark's Older Persons Team and request a Care Assessment/

Assessment of Need.

Your father's financial situation (weekly income and savings over a specific amount) will be used to determine how much he needs to pay towards his care. The Care Assessment will also determine whether your father's care needs are such that could not be catered for by having 3/4 care visits a day and that he needs residential care.

Age UK and Independent Age have very good leaflets re care/care homes which you can download.

    • Just heard 250 houses. Substation fault in Lacon Road. Hopefully may be fixed tonight 😭
    • Sorry to hear this - I hope they get the power back on soon for those affected on a night like tonight.

    • Agree and that is due to the echo-chamber nature of social media algorithms. Previously racists and other idiots wouldn't read stuff in traditional media that echoed their warped mindset but now they feel empowered because they think everyone thinks this and can easily reach those that do share the same ideology. Cast your mind back to how Blackberry Messenger was blamed for its role in the London riots back in 2011. We now have that a thousand times worse.
