StraferJack
I think slagging off anywhere people live constitutes "bad manners"even if they do it themselveseven if it's trueeven if it's tongue in cheekBut they live there for a reason - and ultimately other people slagging the place off is only going to make them feel that much worseI'm not saying "it shouldn't be done" - but it is good manners?Pretty sure I've done it quite a few times but it always makes me uncomfortable when I read it Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28284-manners/page/3/#findComment-610053 Share on other sites

uncleglen
I took my son to a concert at the Festival Hall. It was Igor Oistrakh's 70th birthday and my son was about 15 and it was his first visit. As we went through a door a middle-aged man dressed in dinner suit and bow tie and his wife also dressed up let the door go right in our faces- reality check! laurajaynewoodhouse
This is not just an ED thing, it's a London thing. ED is way friendlier than most other parts of London. I imagine somebod will jump straight on this but I couldn't believe how different London was from the Midlands when I first moved down here. London is a great place to live but people are just rude! the-e-dealer
Faster, briefer quicker. Rude no but no time. When driving we take liberties but expect everyone else to join in the crazy ballet. Stop or even hesitate you wont be forgiven. Theres a respect but yes its fast. uncleglen
There are too many people in London- you never get a seat on the tube or the bus, people are always pushing in queues and are increasingly behaving in an aggressive manner. And caz6868 it is very contagious. What sort of chips SJ?- they still serve the same stuff- wine etc Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28284-manners/page/3/#findComment-610223 Share on other sites
Harry73
I disagree ED is friendlier than other places. I have not come across anywhere in London with more ignorant people than here. Whether its JAGS gym, Lordship Lane, Sainsbury, pubs...the same things happen. Pushing past with no excuse me, you hold a door open and people just walk through and worst of all - a buggy does not mean you own all shop space and the path as and when you feel like it. ????
I see , offer and get polite behaviour almost all of the time from most people (with kids or without) in SE22...people really think it's a bed of bad manners?? Really? or do they magnify the occasional bad experience out of all proportion...maybe the any people OTT should look at themselves a bit would be my suggestion. Thank you. HB6
I don't usually weigh in on fiesty debates like this but I have to agree with Harry. I too have experienced this and actually ????, it is not 'the occasional bad experience'. It happens virtually every time I venture towards LL or Sainsburys. I realise people have busy lives and are often distracted but come on, how hard is it to say thanks / let someone go before you / keep your kids from racing around the supermarket or pubs. Please let's drop the 'me me me' attitude and take a second to remember our manners! For the sake of our community! :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28284-manners/page/3/#findComment-610292 Share on other sites
El Pibe
Aside from the "it takes ten good things to make up for one bad thing" axiom, or "quids law" as we could now call it, I think the perceptions of rudeness or not in the area speaks little about the area and volumes about the perceiver's demeanour and prejudices.
