womanofdulwich
Unbelievable arrogance. Such a sleezebag. Surely 50% of the population would not vote for him automatically. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/280563-alex-salmond/ Share on other sites
Seabag
Donald Trump did ok, maybe he?s hoping the same.Dunno? Fcuk weird attempts to airbrush the past, but then politics is a vainglorious affair. The electorate will decide. JohnL
I get what he's trying to do - Scotland needs more parties that support independence. He might not be the person though. JohnL
In Wales there are 4 independence parties according to Wiki"Four parties have declared they will stand on a pro-independence platform in the May 2021 elections: Plaid Cymru, the Wales Green Party, Gwlad Gwlad and Propel (though Propel is not yet registered by the Electoral Commission)." malumbu
When I was a kid I thought all rock bands had a colour in their name - Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Tangerine Dream, Red Zeppelin, Pink Faries and the like. All Scottish independence parties need to be led by a fish, I look forward to Pike from Dad's army, Captain Haddock from Tin Tin, and Alfie Bass setting up their own, albeit some from the grave. JohnL
Second SNP MP defectsAlba and SNP seem possibly split by Gender Recognition among other things (which is quite a big thing in the SNP at the moment) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/280563-alex-salmond/#findComment-1500803 Share on other sites
diable rouge
This smacks more of personal than political, even Farage realised that by standing at the last GE, votes for his party would undermine the chances of the Tories winning and thereby Brexit completing. The bigger the SNP's win the more chance there'll be of Johnson being forced politically to agree to a second referendum... JohnL
he plans to stand on "list" seats not "constituency""Chris Hopkins, associate director of the polling company Savanta ComRes, said the launch of the Alba Party would give SNP voters the chance to use their ?otherwise wasted? list votes on another pro-independence party."https://www.scotsman.com/news/politics/alex-salmonds-alba-party-to-essentially-manipulate-list-system-to-secure-support-for-scottish-independence-3180597 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/280563-alex-salmond/#findComment-1501640 Share on other sites
diable rouge
That's a good point alex, totally forgot that Scottish Parliament elections are run on a form of PR.According to this article...https://www.holyrood.com/comment/view,what-impact-could-alex-salmonds-alba-party-have-on-the-election...polls are needed (some due this weekend) to see what/if any effect voting for Alba will have. The article does suggest votes for Alba could help unionist parties in certain regions, but it also suggests that Alba is targeting pro-Indy, socially conservative, Brexit voters, so I presume they mean voters that want to vote Indy but would never vote for the SNP because they consider them to be left wing. All ifs, buts and maybes at this stage... Nigello
The interview Mishal H did with him on Today, around 08:35 was good. Some politicians I find foolish but in him, I see prowess and ability but cunning and a chilling-ness. womanofdulwich
Nigello, I've just listened to that, thanks. He just doesn't seem to get the whole sex pest but does he? Dogkennelhillbilly
Perhaps Salmond is hoping more of that sweet Russian lucre can make its way into his party's coffers, just as anti-establishment parties in many European countries gave received cheques from Putin. Salmond is already a commentator on Russia Today. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/280563-alex-salmond/#findComment-1502116 Share on other sites
