Chillaxed
Are you planning to leave before or after you develop the Victorian house into luxury flats? Many people would consider such development equally detrimental to ED's 'vibe'. Have you sought Fred R's views, for example?letmefixthat Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> That sucks, those chains spoil all areas and east> Dulwich is so special as it has people who want> home cooked and home made produce of high quality.> if Starbucks moves in then i am moving out as that> will be the start of the end of lordship lane. Canary
I think it's all up to people living in ED. If you would support local business and actually shop there instead of spending your money in big chains then local business would not go out of business and big chains would not be able to take over their shops. sledge
I think it's a shame that G&B is closing - there is one guy who really knows his wine and is brilliant. As for Starbucks - that is disappointing - the coffee is awful (only for my taste....so not to offend those who like it). peckhamboy
What evidence is there that G&B is becoming a Starbucks? This smacks of a wind-up. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/28053-cafe/#findComment-608456 Share on other sites

Jenny1
They probably serve lukewarm coffee due to their American-style hyper sensitivity to people sueing them if they scald themselves on a properly hot drink.I have no idea how much truth there is to the rumour that Starbucks may be eyeing up Lordship Lane. But I agree with those who say - vote with your purse - make sure you buy from independent shops/businesses if you value their continued presence in the area. And should there be some kind of campaign to keep out larger chains - then back it.
