I never got the carpark. Can't be many people who need to drive to a pub round here. Seems like it would be much more logical to turn it into an extended beer garden.

Just to make a point that The Plough over the years have rarely caused trouble for it's neighbours and I think in the 40 plus years we have been living in Barry Road- I believe there was only one occasion where we and other residents had to complain about noise.

During the warmer months, the gardens are very popular and it is difficult to get a seat - it is standing room only when local musicians are playing.

I just cannot imagine where they will fit in 200 people - they do not seem to be doing anything in the car park

I don't think the Plough will cause too much noise, as it simply isn't very popular anymore... Even allowing for garden improvements.

April evening drinking won't be too appealing.

I hope they have a refurb inside to bring back customers in the long term.

In the short term a lot of pub gardens are booked out - surely the Plough will be too ? However it was always empty when I popped in the last few years so hope they can get something done - live music or comedy (they tried this about 5-10 years ago).

Unfortunately I think this pub has been slowly dying over the last few years.

It is too dark on the inside and service is generally poor.

Customers have voted with their feet and don't return.

It happens for a reason.

I have given them 10 yrs of chances.

It has slowly got worse.

When we are drinking inside pubs again..e.g:Autumn and Winter 2021..it'll be tumbleweed again.

I am frustrated like anyone else.

1) Redecorate...it's too gloomy inside.

2) Play decent music out of the

loudspeakers..that can be heard

without a hearing aid.

3) Cheery staff.

Simple.

I Hammer - don't forget edible food, always a winner !

I can handle shite music, empty of clientele, even miserable or inept staff - but if I order food it'd better be what's described in the menu unless I'm told otherwise in front by the server.

To balls-up a simple dish like sausage and mash (microwaved by sound of it... 'ting') is inexcusable !

Did they serve sausages made of potatoes and they mashed the sausages?

The pub reminds me of how the Phoenix slowly died... But has recently risen again due to enthusiastic staff & decent music.

Does anyone know what pub Co. owns the Plough?

No, I meant ?edible? food.

Because you were listing proposed improvements, of which my suggestion is certainly one IMO.

It's Mitchells and Butlers - Castle Brand

That sounds par for the Plough course ....

It would be nice to have a pub that was just a straightforward boozer. I used to go in The Castle occasionally but it stinks, and the Palmerston is too expensive and bourgeois.

The outdoor space at The Plough is fine. The inside is a bit gloomy. I went in there to watch a big rugby match and there was only 1 or 2 TVs (both in the main space, and nothing in the empty side room), and they kept the music on!

I hope the pub does do well with its outdoor seating - but not at the expense of late night noise pollution to neighbours.

Agreed - I would like to have a straight forward pub.

I think the Cherry Tree would be a good role to copy - imho.

Decent food + drinks selection. (definitely popular with couples, families and groups of friends)

Cheery bar staff.

Decent background music.

Sport is popular in there - but doesn't dominate the atmosphere. (subtle TV locations to keep everyone happy).

Decent decor. (too gloomy and furniture too dark and samey = no character).

This is not rocket science - and the current owners/managers - should almost be embarrassed with what's on offer.

The Plough could be a gold mine - in its relatively stand alone location, & there's time to fix faults before 17th May.

I am available for consultation by the owners.
