I just heard the intro to womens hour, and was surprised to hear that they will be discussing whether some doctors and midwives are "forcing" / pushing women in to having unnecessary interventions during labour.

"Are doctors and midwives forcing women to have unnecessary interventions when they give birth? Human rights lawyer and the chair of the new Birthrights charity Elizabeth Prochaska says there is growing evidence that women are feel they are being pressed into certain treatments or interventions which are not appropriate for them or their baby. Jane is joined by Elizabeth and by Daghni Rajasingham, Consultant Obstetrician, Guys and St Thomas' Foundation Trust Hospital, and an official spokesperson for Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists."

This would seem to be the opposite issue to what a lot of women report (begging for interventions and being put off / ignored).

Anyway, thought it might interest some of the Family Room folk.
