jennyh
HiWe know the cause of the damp we are experiencing and so we don't require a survey, we really just want a good builder who can cut a Victorian bay right back and install a new DPC in addition to doing all the plastering and rendering afterwards, someone who can guarantee the DPC. Also have a few other internal plastering jobs. It's really hard to get someone trustworthy and sadly we've had our share of shoddy tradesmen hence turning to the forum for opinion. We are keen to go with one person rather than using a builder and a damp proof expert.Ay ideas let me know! Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27956-damp-another-request-for-tradesman-who-can-help/ Share on other sites

jrpfinch
I'm getting damp work done. It's highly unlikely you need a new dpc even if the house is v old. You just need to get rid of the damp source and ensure good ventilation. jrpfinch
Sorry I should say I found Rhodes Watkins helpful and also Ben Mackereth, although the work hasn't been done yet. charwray
Hi,Could I ask who you used in the end, and whether you would recommend them? We are having some damp problems. Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27956-damp-another-request-for-tradesman-who-can-help/#findComment-624510 Share on other sites
jrpfinch
I am using a combination of Belmont Builders, Klaus Degener (carpenter) and Steve Eade (plasterer).I had a damp survey from an independent surveyor, but would not bother again. They ripped up the floorboards (which you can do yourself) and then went into lots of unnecessary detail about what type of damp/fungus was growing. I found the tradesmen much more helpful. If it's a small job, it's probably more cost effective to just bring in carpenters/plasterers/roofers/plumbers yourself. Building contractors charge a lot to project-manage the tradesmen.See also my post on this thread:http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?30,1068179 Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27956-damp-another-request-for-tradesman-who-can-help/#findComment-624828 Share on other sites
jrpfinch
(PS I can't recommend them yet because they have not finished their work, although seem good so far) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27956-damp-another-request-for-tradesman-who-can-help/#findComment-624829 Share on other sites
