Sounds like a simple question but Southwark website is useless. The bin men missed our green bin collection on Tuesday (the neighbors definitely got collected). I reported the missed collection on Tuesday night and they've not yet attempted another collection.

My bin is now full and I've got nowhere to put my rubbish.

Anyone know what the timeframe usually is for getting the bins re-collected after reporting it missed?

I find that you report it, they respond a few days later saying in the next few days it will be collected and in reality it will be the next actual scheduled collection day ...

The covid situation seems to have slowed the whole reporting process down but hopefully I'm wrong and you will have a better experience.

Our bins are frequently missed. I think it's because we live on a junction where the lorry does part of the road, then the adjoining road, and then the rest of our road, missing us.

Our missed collections always used to be picked up on a Saturday (reported on a Wednesday / Thursday) without fail, but now they don't come at all. We've contacted the Council and they play the Covid card. We often have to put our recycling in the green bin as we can't go 4 weeks between collections.

and they play the Covid card

In my experience, throughout Covid - the only missed collection we had was weather related. But the crews have been changed and are changing as individuals have to isolate or may be shielding - remember these guys can't stay at home or work from home - they are very much front-line key workers. I can't speak for those employed by the Council as liaison with Veolia. These probably are working from home and may find this more difficult logistically.

then your complaint is ignored. Its been that way for years.

Again, in my experience, pre-Covid there was response to reports of missed collections - and these were generally corrected within 48 hours. But we were lucky, it didn't happen often.

You can report missed bin collections here and usually fixed in a couple of day - https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/general-household-waste/report-a-missed-collection

Saying that January was a car crash with 29% of staff absence due to COVID.

I'm assuming that is having to isolate after being potentially exposed, rather than 29% actually having tested with Covid - which would be a very worryingly high incidence.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree that no response to reporting missed bins has only been a problem since covid.Where I live in Donkey Alley this has been a problem for years and reporting has been a waste of time. At one time my blue bin wasn't collected for 6 weeks. We had to put it all in the car and take it to the tip. One day my husband saw them at the bottom of our hill and ran down to ask them to come up and take our bin. They only came up after having an argument about it. Reported it to my councillor who never even sent me an acknowledgement. I'm hoping they pick up all the food that they didn't collect last week.

Update: After reporting the missed collection on the Tuesday night (bin day is Tuesday), they got collected on Saturday. Not only did the green bin they missed get collected but they also took the recycling. So all in all, not a bad outcome.

I never got any confirmation or acknowledgement for submitting the form though.
