Yes, that is a valid point. The thing with this scheme is that it costs significantly less as tehre is the pooling aspect. Installation could be 2.5k rather than 4.5k. It tells you it will take X amount of years to pay back, even if you pay into the grid (and you can send it a provider that is not the same as the one you use, so can shop around for the best payer). It's worth a look, especially if you are working from home more and are planning to stay that way.

It's our duty to reduce carbon emissions. That said most of our housing stock is poorly insulated, including mine, and it is faff to put up internal or external insulation. I don't fancy the disruption and costs of ground or air source heat pumps. My roof is not South facing and PV panels are ugly in any case. Let's have some combined heat and power, local networks running off more sustainable energy sources. I suppose I will just have to move to Denmark.

PS think the scheme is legit. Whether it is good investment and will deliver is another question.

The housing stock varies across ED and Forest Hill, being a combination of Victorian properties with either tile or slate roofs and 1930's style housing stock with predominately tiled roofs. 90+ years and still as good as the day they were laid.

I've known of a house built in the 187 - 1890 having a slate roof, having solar panels fitted with what I understand was a water heat exchanger as well. When the house was eventually sold, one of the first things the new owners did was to have removed the solar panels/heat exchanged on the roof. So what some people invest in and hope that it contribute a little towards reducing global warming and save some money from their heating and lighting bills, others simply remove the paraphernalia.

Out of interest does anyone posting on this thread have anything good to say about PV panels? It comes across as having an agenda that you are going to hate them come what may. There appear to be a lot around and here's some good advice: https://energysavingtrust.org.uk/advice/solar-panels/

Some of the posts appear to be rather luddite. Or maybe it's the opportunity to have a good moan! Modern life eh? Those young people with their little computers in their hands. Jumpers for goalposts....
