Nigello
There is a new, large (about 6' x 3') bin for small electrical items in DV, near to the P4 bus stop at the small graveyard. It's the first one I have seen of its kind around here. Perhaps there are others? Digbina
It?s just past the junction with Carlton Avenue and before the Crown and Greyhound on the left hand side as you enter Dulwich Village heading south towards Dulwich Park. kiera
Thanks Nigello for telling us about the new recycling bin for small electrical items in Dulwich Village. I looked at it yesterday & thought I should let others know that it's either full, or items which are too large have been forced into it. Either way, it's blocked at the moment. The bin has no facility for lightbulbs or batteries. Romnarz
Not clear what happens to the 'electrical items'If they just slide down a shute I presume that get broken up for the precious metals etc in the circuit boards, a lot of the remainder will get ditched and into landfill . If the item works take it to a charity shop or give it away on here or free cycle etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/278082-new-recycling-bin-for-electrical-items/#findComment-1498571 Share on other sites
Nigello
Romnarz - why not find out for us all and let us know? You can contact Southwark easily - they'll let you know whether you are right or wrong. Happy knowledge hunting! They have an electrical item recycling part to their dump. So possibly the same. Nigello
I just walked past and it has its opening covered over, saying it is out of order or similar. Is there another one nearby? Sydenham Hill is too far for me to walk just to deposit some small items. Sally Eva
https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/recycling/recycling-centres/reuse-and-recycling-centre?chapter=5There's a list of stuff they recycle there some of which they also repair. I'm slowly accumulating old computers but one is always instructed to take all personal stuff off them. Anyone know how this is done? DulwichSociety
Nigello, the bin has been repeatedly vandalised, broken into and the contents strewn across the pavement. The door is now broken and the bin has to be taken for repairs. We are hoping that when it returns it can move to another site still in Dulwich but one that doesn't impact on the heritage location of the historic 17th century burial ground. Local councillors are involved and have given us a list of criteria (attached) so if anyone can think of any suitable locations please let us know. We definitely need the bin, it is used more than any other electrical recycling bin in Southwark. Nigello
Maybe outside the CoOp on Forest Hill Road or the Sainsbury's near The Plough - both have wide pavements, or the car park at the old entrance to the Dulwich Baths.
