The draft house was closed too. Was meeting a friend that night there and he text me to say that and the plamerston was shut.

He was told the draft house was closing straight after he was served a pint and had 4 minutes to drink it ...lucky thats all it takes for him usually ;)

I was in The Ship in The Borough recently.

They had a 'Photographer' ? photographing plates of food.

It was a pretty amateur set up without the usual Lighting and 'Cosmetic' tricks usually associated with trying to

make a plate of 'crap' look edible.

The food there is generally pretty poor.

So perhaps Youngs are attempting to up the standards in ALL their outlets.

Beer IS good though.

NOT good if you prefer to drink 'Arty Farty Fruit Bitters' at ?8.00 a pint.

Like 'Ramsey's Old'e Stoat & Pinapple Head Banger 9%'

I made that up. So Formites need not complain if you cannot find it in ED.

Fox.

That's a great vid, and spot on....the d**kheads are in the process of launching an assault on Honor Oak Park and Forest Hill.

Just because he/she didn't have a huge set up doesn't mean anything - natural light is a very powerful thing and most modern food photography is entirely naturally lit. That said I wasn't there so didn't see what the food looked like etc and I do agree about their general crapness.

Went to the Clockhouse once and just felt so 'meh' about the whole place we left after two drinks.

Hi All,

Just to say The Clockhouse is now open again after our refurb, you will see some big changes including a brand new menu...not your standard "young's" menu. Pop down and give us a try...i think you will be very impressed!!!

Laura

I agree that it was pricey, which is one reason why people stopped going there and if the priceyness and poor value has stayed then there'll be initial interest followed by a tail off (unless the food is absolutely amazing of course).

There is an abundance of pubs locally where I can get a nice pint of cider on tap for less than ?4 and get a decent main meal for around/less than a tenner. The Clock House for 15 years was my first choice local pub, but then just became stupidly expensive for the regular pub goer. I don't mind paying over the odds for a good meal but it would be a treat, not a regular thing. Similarly I resent paying West End prices in a South London enclave, and in that respect I think Youngs had been milking us all, and paid for it with a loss of custom.

But I'll take a look for myself before the weekend and see if anything is different in that respect.

We are no longer the "old Clockhouse" It's a band new refurb, new menu, new bar. On our menu we also do small plates that are perfect for sharing so no need to necessarily order mains if you didn't want to!

Everyone changes including us, pop in and try the NEW Clockhouse.

any chance you could update your website? perhaps with a menu?

All I can glean from the website is that they do marmalade bread and butter pudding, and that was from a tweet copied onto the website.

Other than that, all it says is that the pub is now open ..... oh, and that they had a lovely moment this morning ...... :))

    • We both own the freehold. They’re in the maisonette and I’m in the flat. They’re older, so with any luck, they’ll be selling soon. Unfortunately, due to recent events, all of this now has to be disclosed on the TA6 form. Honestly, I’d move out of sheer shame if I were them. Poisoning fruit trees planted for children is just cruel, and they haven’t even apologised. I genuinely wonder how they justify this to themselves. Envy is such a toxic and destructive emotion, and sadly, it often explains behaviour like this. I just wanted to say how grateful I am for the support from so many of you, especially at the East Dulwich Forum drinks and for the kind messages on both this forum and the Nextdoor app. It’s genuinely reassuring to know there are still decent, supportive neighbours around.
    • Hmm, you seem to have an agenda.  I like ait of measured that they have done to promote active travel, improving pedestrian and cyclist safety, whilst improving the streetscape. I avoid making sweeping statements about wildlife management as I don't know enough about their policies, and expect some in Southwark are passionate about what they do. Go along to a relevant local meeting and ask, I doubt if you will change a thing by posting here.
    • It wouldn't surprise me at all.   The council used to spray the pavements all the time b4 lockdown.  They are probably doing it again.
