I?ve removed a few bricks from the party wall with next door, and noticed they don?t seem to use their loft - I don?t see them going in there and there?s only a few boxes of junk in there, some suitcases, chairs, and Christmas decorations. I regularly go in my own loft as it?s been converted to an en-suite bedroom. As they don?t similarly use theirs I was wondering if I went in there and started using it regularly for extra storage if in a few years I could claim it as my own additional loft via adverse possession?

No. What I?ve done to monitor their usage of the loft is to install in my loft space a ?Mr Beams? motion sensitive light directed toward the (small) hole in the party wall, then if they go in the loft, the light is triggered and that is then picked by my light sensitive webcam in my loft space and I get an app alert on my iPhone 6s. I haven?t had any app alerts since I installed the system 2 weeks ago, so I know they don?t use their loft.

Why bother doing any upkeep or renovation work right? Your house needs repainting? Just buy a newly painted house that isn't an eyesore.

My dyslexia, sorry.

Painting a house is different to ruining architecture

I think there are worse things than lofts which ruin the Victorian style of the houses. At least you generally only see the hideous lofts from the back.

Inappropriate double glazed windows at the front which aren't sash windows are worse, I think, and also plantation (I think they're called) shutters, though I can see from a functional point of view they are good.

ETA: Anyway, I think Bob is probably referring to the original loft, not some carbuncle stuck onto it.

ETA: As you were, sorry 😂

Fgs...

Used to have noisy neighbours and I'd sit in bed thinking of schemes such as drilling into their loft and filling it with chlorine. Glad I didn't as the acid bath worked much better.

Also had a terraced house in Nottingham where the cellar was longer than the house, went into soil flooring and then continued, I assume into the street behind. It freaked me out so we bricked it up at an appropriate place.

It's a joke!

But, I?m not directly spying in them - all I?ve done is put a small hole in our party wall (which I?m allowed to do as it?s shared) then pointed a motion sensitive light at it, which activates my loft webcam and sends an app alert to my phone if they go in their loft and activate the motion sensitive light. I also have webcams on the front and rear of my house so I can monitor comings and goings on my street, such as Amazon deliveries, and take-out food deliveries.

    • Has anyone else noticed a small notice, midway on the green, metal barricade, that is flagging another event in September? It seems to be another event organiser has been granted a licence to operate in the same area of the park? Does anyone know more? If Cllr Hamvas is around, perhaps she could shed some light on this and any other plans for further commercial exploitation of our precious park, by this council.
    • Anyway, along with most of the (many)  things I'm presently worrying about, it will all sort itself out one way or another when I find myself doing something about it. I have to remind myself that I'm not starving in Gaza or being bombed or living in America. Thanks everyone for your help, all your comments have been very useful, I  have read and  "liked" them all, even if I didn't acknowledge individual posts x
    • I suppose car clubs operate outside of London but it sounds like it requires quite a lot of forward planning. Not sure how helpful if you need to make a last minute journey out of London and are unclear when you will travel back.
    • Thanks, I will investigate. But how does this work if you want to drive out of London and leave the car somewhere else? And then pick.up another car a few days later to drive home?
