Fidgetsmum
Happy new year everyone! Sorry to make a new year posting on the basis of a UTI but all of a sudden, my daughter is complaining of stinging wee, and needing to go a lot more than usual. Not complaining of tummy ache. We'll take her to the docs tomorrow. She's drinking lots of water (always does) and I'm helping her to wee even though it hurts by distracting her. We've also been recommended to get some natural d-mannose. I think I know it came from a 'number two less than perfect wiping incident' so fairly sure it'd be an e coli situation. she's normally very good at wiping, but was majorly distracted by cousins at Christmas etc, and I discovered at bathtime last week there had been an 'issue'.Also doing vinegar in the bath tonight which is what I've done in the past for me.Any other advice very welcome as its my first time of her having it.Thanks Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27562-5yr-old-has-cystitis/ Share on other sites
Mrs TP
Natural yoghurt - dab on with cotton wool. Sudocreme - fab all purpose. Keep the water up as you say. I think this not too rare for young girls and hopefully she soon better. Fidgetsmum
It's only a cup of vinegar in a whole bath, but it neutralises some of the nasties. You don't notice it's there. Certainly worked for me in the past. Forgot about natural yoghurt, although is that more for thrush? midivydale
Both me and my little sister had this when we were younger. It was thought that several causes of antibiotics contributed and so we were advised (or parents rather) to include a strong childfriendly probiotic. To this day I take a probiotic supplement and i think it helps keep most of them at bay. I suffered badly when pregnant though.Other advice from health prof included avoid baths and only shower, always wipe front to back, no perfumed wipes or soaps, only cotton knickers and tights.I remember how painful it was as a little girl so feel for your daughter.X Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27562-5yr-old-has-cystitis/#findComment-603804 Share on other sites

susyp
i used white wine vinegar in the bath for my daughter when she had a recurrent vaginal infections (a cup per bath) and no bubble stuff and it definitely seemed to help clear it up. susypx Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27562-5yr-old-has-cystitis/#findComment-603818 Share on other sites
Fidgetsmum
Thanks everyone. So far so good. We'll see how she feels in the morning. Or I guess with the frequency thing, she may get up in the night, which she never has before... But that urgency feeling is difficult to ignore I think. Thanks EdF ladies (and maybe gents?!). Happy new year. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27562-5yr-old-has-cystitis/#findComment-603826 Share on other sites
esme
Cranberry is a preventative according to The Food Hospital (TV prog), I used to suffer with it but eased after avoiding bubble bath, drinking lots of water etc. Natural yoghurt good for cooling, poor little thing hope she gets better soon, nasty enough getting it as a grown up!
