If you get others to do it, they may need to be Gassafe registered, although it is still the same simple job

No you can't It is illegal.

A Gas Safe Engineer needs to check for Leaks before and After removal.

The Engineer will connect a Gas Manometer to the supply and wait a specific length of time to ensure

pressure does not drop.
