Contest it (unless you have parked in a very silly position and/or for an unreasonable term relative to the location). If you contest unsuccessfully then pay up quickly.

Massively annoying experience to many of us stopping for a couple of minutes on an errand/appointment/actually helping someone in need... when we see more serious civil breaches and crimes committed daily and without impunity?

I think that it's sarcasm as in "I innocently only stopped for a moment on a double yellow line to ...."

Entrapment -yes, the council have purposely painted double yellow lines where they know people stop just to generate revenue 😱

Look it it both ways - only the law abiding tax paying community spirited people like me get caught, when we see rrrrs who could't give a frig who have no social conscious speed, park on pavements, drive down bus lanes etc

Or the I am innocent, the signage was unclear etc etc.

I've been that as well, but disputing penalties has never got me anywhere.

There's a serious issue on proportionality - there is no simple warning system for those with a minor transgression, yet for example roads and time of day when there is zero enforcement of restrictions. Yet if you get stopped for undue care and attention you may well get a warning or go on a speed awareness course, rather than points and a fine. I've given up trying to make this point to government, local authorities etc. The negative side is that overzealous enforcement does alienate decent people.

I think you will find that when 'They' park on Yellow Lines 'They' are not actually breaking the Law.

Foxy.

Parking enforcement and the fine system that comes with it is a scam. Someone can go from not paying a ?40 PCN to literally owing thousands and losing their vehicle to bailiffs. How can that be right when more serious infractions, like driving with no insurance, have fines capped?

Blah blah, wait till fines for LTN infringements start piling up.

Still that's one way of reducing car usage, send in the bailiffs to seize the cars from people who accidently go into one of the new gated streets so that they will never ever do it again ! 😱

Shhhssss nobody suggest this to council officers 🤔

Worth noting in case this helps anyone - there are circumstances where it is legal to park for a period of time on double yellows when loading/unloading, but it does vary by borough. Southwark info is under the yellow lines section here https://www.southwark.gov.uk/parking/guide-to-parking/loading-and-unloading

My advice would be - check the time limit (40 mins in Southwark), make sure you are visibly loading/unloading - have a door or boot open if possible and particularly hazard lights on, do not block anything, don?t do it where it is forbidden (look for perpendicular yellow lines on the kerb), and pop a ?loading only? note on your dashboard. Hope this helps.

    • I highly recommend Temi as a very skilled and reliable painter / decorator based in the East Dulwich & SE London area. She has completed many jobs for us over the past 10 years at our property on Overhill Road SE22 and also on Harlescott Road SE15, and we have always been thoroughly impressed with her work. We often leave her with keys and leave her to work her magic, fully confident that she's 100% trustworthy and will always do a fantastic job. If you're looking for a trustworthy local decorator who delivers exceptional work Temi is a great person to call. I'm not affiliated with her or her business in any way and actually found her through a recommendation on the ED forum over 10 years ago, i just like to recommend really good tradespeople who deserve a thank you. • ''He caused chaos  in this country with his put down of everything British and his many dismal words about the effects of Brexit on this country.'' What utter tosh. Carney had to mitigate the effects of Brexit caused by plastic patriots like Farage. For example, immediately after the 2016 Brexit vote the BoE had to intervene fiscally by dropping interest rates and increasing QE in order to prevent the economy from taking a big hit.  They were unable to prevent the £ from crashing at the time, and it has since been worked out that the effect of that alone caused a circa £900/year hit to each UK household, which equates to the UK @ £450m/week.   There's reams of data out there that shows the economic damage Brexit has caused to the UK. Here's one looking at business investment, admittedly not very sexy but kinda important if you want to achieve economic growth. It's clear to see that prior to 2016 we had reached parity with some of our main rivals, but since then we've flatlined. All that Brexit has achieved is to win the race to the bottom. There's a reason why Farage never brought up Brexit at the last election, he knows himself it hasn't delivered on any of the promises, quite the reverse in fact.  Labour, stupidly, by saying they can make Brexit work have in effect given Farage a Get Out of Jail Free card...
