There are lots of threads on this already, e.g. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,807793,page=1

The general feeling is that it's a really important vaccine to have, it is one of the safest and most researched childhood vaccines, anything that Andrew Wakefield wrote about it is utter nonsense to the rest of the scientific community, and that there is no evidence to favour a single vaccine approach (in fact, it's likely to leave your LO susceptible for longer so could be less safe).

You will, of course, find some people who are against the MMR and vaccination in general.

You should speak to your GP if you have concerns.

If there is a reason to think that your child will have a bad reaction to one part of the MMR, then you may want to consider giving them as singles. Reasons might include a history of family reactions to imms, allergy to any of the ingredients, bad reaction to a previous imms etc.

However, the downside of giving singles is that your child will then have to endure more individual needle sticks to get the full protection against each aspect that would be covered in the combined MMR.

Then again, hypothetically speaking, if a person is deadset against the combined jab but would consider singles, then giving singles is better than giving nothing from an imms point of view.

You can use Emla cream to reduce the pain of injections: http://www.emla.co.uk/ . It won't totally take away the pain, but it will reduce it. xx

I cried with literal anxiety when baby strawbs had his, I even made my partner go a do I as I just couldn't.. I thought he would come home a different baby ( yes I regularly slap myself about for being so dramatic haha).. Even though I was anxious about it I knew I couldn't take the risk of not having him vaccinated so we pressed on and rest assure he came home the same and didn't have a single ill effect from it x

    • Oh dear. Sadly I had a disappointing meal on Saturday night. I should have read Malumbu's review above before I ordered. I thought I'd have a dosa for a change. Our meal arrived very quickly. However the dosa was more like a thick and very soggy pancake. The filling was fine. The sambar (sp?) was fine. The chutneys were not what I was expecting, and had a consistency more like sauces.  That might be my lack of knowledge of South Indian food, but I would have expected the coconut chutney to at least taste a bit like coconut. I left most of the actual dosa. My OH said his aubergine curry was delicious. I don't know whether the problem was that the dosa got soggy due to being wrapped in foil to be delivered, but tbh it didn't look like it had ever been a thin crispy dosa 😥 as I have always had in the past  at South Indian restaurants.
