Jeremy
The former Irish pub on Walworth Rd which is now an Islamic centre... that place used to look damn scary.Someone else mentioned the Corrib bar. I've actually always wanted to try it. I like the way they have the menu outside, clearly visible from the bus, and everything seems to cost ?2. Just read a couple of reviews mentioning a ?1 cheese sandwich and a ?1.90 pint of Toby bitter. David A
Pretty much any pub with a flat roof should be avoided, and anywhere with a 'Big Steak Pub' poster from nineties still in the window. And the Downham Tavern - 30,000 displaced inner Londoners and one pub was never going to be a good idea. The Greyhound at the end of Peckham Hill Street isn't scary, but it's a genuine 'Star Wars' bar. You feel like you're showing off just by having all your own limbs and the power of speech. DaveR
"Pretty much any pub with a flat roof should be avoided"....or with the word 'railway' in the name. Rule for life.Just as an aside, I once worked in a pub (with a flat roof) in Cambridge. One night after closing a brick came through the window with a note wrapped round it (for real). The note said 'don't turn up at court or you're a dead man'. I then found out that the landlord was a witness in an upcoming case where one of the regulars had been whacked over the head with an axe while he was sat at the bar. he'd turned his head at the last second and the axe had sliced his ear off. The pub looked a bit scarier after that. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27382-scary-pubs/page/4/#findComment-601986 Share on other sites

Help-Ma-Boab
Piano Bars sound glam, used to go to Fingers after the Heb I mentioned earlier. Oh I miss Edinburgh! Glowing review!Went there on a night out and could not believe how overcrowded the place is, would definitely fail the health and safety regulations. The bar staff have severe attitude along with the bouncers and they favouritise female clientelle and treat guys like second class citizens. The seats are all ripped, the place is awash with spilt drinks and broken glasses and the toilet facilities are horrendous. I would suggest that everyone avoids this place and it should be shut down immediately and refurbished after all the amount they charge for their watered down alcohol, inside information, is atrocious, even their soft drinks and bottled water cost the earth. The place where everyone stand for a cigarette is a health hazard in itself as everyone is leaning against a single plate glassed window. I advise if you use the toilets to roll your trousers up or they should at least provide you with plastic covers for your shoes like you have to use to enter swimming pools now. I see someone else has commented that their are sugar daddies there well I would say they were old men drunk as skunks who would accept anything at the end of the night. My advice to all is campaign to get the place closed down Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27382-scary-pubs/page/4/#findComment-602091 Share on other sites

steveo
(Moved)In the Palmerston in the early 80s: it was the only time I've ever seen someone get their head kicked in. I mean really, boot to head over and over. Seabag
Yes Otta the Pavillion/Railway (now BRIGHT YELLOW) hasn't changed punters one bitAnd it's the only place i've ever been asked by a 'Lady' outside if I wanted "business" Ha ha! I was well shockedNow The Two Brewers on Southampton Way in Camberwell was pretty sacry, my other half was asked if she was "mingro" when she came looking for me once. And someone once stabbed someone within an inch of his life outside, over a Chinese take away he'd been mugged for previously Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27382-scary-pubs/page/4/#findComment-871956 Share on other sites
millie7uk
you want scary, walk into any "local" in east Dulwich, and be confronted by wagon trains of buggies, so called "yummy mummies", daddy day care groups and planks asking "can I get" instead of "may I have" half, or a bottle of imported beer or shite, well overpriced wine that is going to last all fecking night, THATS SCARY. Otta
Aww Dick the Brick, I loved that guy when I was a kid, always seemed happy back then. He'd occasionally perform his party piece "Ruby don't take your love to town".Last time I saw him I was down from uni and bumped in to him on a very quiet lunchtime in the CPT. We sat and talked for a while and it was obvious he wasn't in a good place. A month or so later my mum called me with the news. Some time later I was playing music with a couple of people in the back room of this bloke's flat on Underhill Road, when someone mentioned it was the room Dick had done himself in in. That felt a bit wrong. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27382-scary-pubs/page/4/#findComment-872213 Share on other sites

Louisa
Hipsters need to learn how to wash. And if you're going to waste your gap year on mummy & daddys cash, why not go abroad and volunteer rather than move to London and "slum" it on jam jar cocktails in a working class neighbourhood, getting pissed and turning working class pubs into yuppy enclaves. Louisa. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27382-scary-pubs/page/4/#findComment-872562 Share on other sites
numbers
I've never met an unwashed hipster, I always thought they were fairly well turned out. How do you know they haven't washed Louisa, do they stink or something?Nothing wrong with jam jar cocktails to transport you back to Louisiana and all that jazz. As long as they are recycled jam jars and not those ones with handles on that you can buy in any old pound shop! Silly me, it's a quiet Saturday eve and I've taken the bait, haven't I? Louisa
Beards with food particles in. Often times sported by middle aged trendy wannabes who think they're being 'edgy' and cool, when actually they just look like cunts. Anyway, enough about hipsters. They've got a thread of their own. Quiet one tonight isn't it numbers? Louisa. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/27382-scary-pubs/page/4/#findComment-872585 Share on other sites
