Nero
A while back I posted that I was going to contact the rail company to complain about the litter that gathers behind the fence. I did get a reply, telling me that it would be looked into. I'd copied the letter of complaint to Tessa Jowell, who, as TJMP, has replied to me. She told me that the railway station is cleaned daily and that it is considering re-installing plastic sacks in hoops for rubbish. She also said that Network Rail is responsible for the area behind the mesh fence and that they clean the area from time to time. I went recently and it is cleaner. In time, says TJMP, TfL might take over the station, which, she implies, would be good because TfL's standards are higher than Network Rail. seanmlow
Nero -I know exactly what you mean - the station is filthy. I have never seen any sign of a clean up operation... candj
I have seen people cleaning the actual station, sweeping rubbish, painting benches, etc., but they don't seem able to get into the fenced area where all the bottles and papers collect. I remember reading years ago that Southwark or Network Rail were going to let this fenced area grow a bit for the birds... but looks like a vulture wouldn't even go in there, sadly! ratty
There were people clearing in the fenced area last time I used the station - would have been about 2 weeks ago. The "going to London Bridge" side. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2737-e-dulwich-station-litter/#findComment-83288 Share on other sites
mikese22
I work for Network Rail and know for a fact that they will respond to complaints about litter very quicklyThe reason that litter builds up is that regular maintenance can only ever be planned on a rotation basis - as the network is so huge it would be impossible to keep everywhere litter free all the time As they have no employees on the ground at East Dulwich, for reactive tidying in between planned dates, they rely on passengers (or Southern employees) to report the problem The national helpline number is 08457 11 41 41 - 7 days a week / 365 days a yearNero Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> A while back I posted that I was going to contact> the rail company to complain about the litter that> gathers behind the fence. Nero
From my experience, the station employees have not been reporting the rubbish build up. There was some real ancient, sun-bleached examples there. Good to know the number. Ta.
