Bought the latest Tracey Thorn called "Love and it's Opposite". I's a grower. Subtle and pensive. Was listening to her about 25 years ago when she was in The MArine Girls.

Completely from left field, got a compilation called "Songs for Dad" from my two little ones on Father's Day. Thought it was a touching gesture that would quickly be gathering dust - but this starts with "Come FLy with Me2 by Sinatra, ends with Johnnie Ray's "Just Walking in the Rain" and in between sweeps through a load of gems from the 50s, including "Good Rocking Daddy" by Etta James. Cool.

Micah P Hinson's new one. A change of direction, much richer arrangements and a bit cheerier if I'm not mistaken.

Very good.

Also got She & Him - Volume 2, Zooey Deschanel's musical project, this time with M Ward. Sort of Gainsbourg & Birkin after hanging around with Johnny Cash for too long.

Have read a couple of good reviews of the Tracy Thorn album, might give it a quick spotify and see if I like it.

Jeff Beck's new album Emotion And Commotion and quite a bit of old reggae at the moment. Always the same with me when the sun comes out. So it's been Lee "Scratch" Perry's Arkology boxset, a singles compilation from Doctor Alimantado, King Tubby's Meet The Rockers Uptown and Eek-A-Mouse's first album Wa-Do-Dem.

    • Hi everyone, we are trying to finslise our decision for enrolling our son for 3+ from September and currently considering Dulwich Prep or Herne Hill. We like both and appreciate there is no right or wrong answer but what we like about HH is great focus on early years and also being coed. However if we can avoid the 7+ stress then prefer to do that. Dulwich Prep is closer but the difference is not significant. we know children are very active and busy in DP and they have great facilities, but unlike HH, we don’t know much about their focus on personal development and emotional intelligence, etc! Also not sure about long-term impact of being in boys only school. Difficult decision for us and we appreciate feedback from parents if you can share please.    thank you
    • Yeah that was their old policy. Their new policy is to force you to have a water meter and if you refuse they put you on a punitively high tariff which effectively forces you to have one. I was doing well with my policy of polite resistance which was to say yes fine I'll have one fitted but then not actually book an appointment or cancel the appointments they made. But then I was persuaded that it would be much cheaper anyway.
