mockney piers
Went on a rate-cut celebration spending spree down fopp.Ted Barnes - portal Nou.Wow frankly, shiveringly dark, occasionally intimate countryesque, folk inspired tunes, with accordian, strings, guitar, harmonicas, and glockenspiels, accompanied by his own gruff vocals (think Robert Fischer from the Willard Grant Conspiracy) and collaborations with other quality vocalists such as Froncoiz Breut and Beth Orton.Frankly breath taking. Go...go now...buy!Also worth a mention, the latest Wolf Parade CD, lovely, and Yeasayer's debut 'All Hour Cymbals', which is treading ground forged by Panda Bear/Animal Collective, but really good stuff. capt_birdseye
I recorded a few Clash programmes last week. Revolution Rock, a bit of a light-weight Clash documentary, but with loads of concert footage. Westway to the World, haven't watched that yet. Also Joe Strummer, The Future is unwritten, a really well made biopic of the man. Sounds like he was a bit of an arse in his Clash heyday, but in his latter years came across as a really down to earth decent guy, very humble and clearly widely loved by all those who met him. It's got me listening to lots of Clash again, really reminds me of what a top-draw band they were, some really fantastic tunes. I have to say, can't put my finger on who, but I basically already own this album as done by someone else, will update when tip of tongue manifests to a name. Not Mercury Rev, but getting closer. mockney piers
As of this morning I'm listening to Fight Like Apes and The Mystery of the Golden Medallion by Fight Like ApesThese guys are friends of a good pal of mine who knows them when they were both struggling bands in Dublin. Now my mate is a struggling band in London and these guys have a proper album out, in the shops and everything. If you like quirky, energetic power pop then it'll be right up your street. One to check out, Lend Me Your Face, probably on youtube, myspace etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/272-what-is-east-dulwich-listening-to/page/20/#findComment-163000 Share on other sites
