gerry
Is anyone surprised by the results? Daniel Day Lewis certainly deserved Best Actor for There Will be Blood; haven't seen No Country - La Vie de Rose was fantastic, so on that score both Actor and Actress awards went to the best of the bunch. Anyone have other thoughts? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2718-the-oscars/ Share on other sites
KalamityKel
Why did Attonement get it for music? It werent that great :s Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2718-the-oscars/#findComment-82347 Share on other sites
gerry
I don't know - I haven't seen the film yet. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2718-the-oscars/#findComment-82349 Share on other sites
jumpinjackflash
I can't believe that The Kite Runner - the best film I've seen this year - was completely overlooked in the Foreign Language category. D D lewis is very good in his film and go see In The Valley of Elah - Tommy Lee Jones was brilliant. Moos
No Country was excellent: tough, brilliantly acted and in some places quite shocking. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2718-the-oscars/#findComment-82359 Share on other sites
gerry
I also loved the Kite Runner, looking forward to seeing No Country, why was Atonement overlooked as well? spadetownboy
no country and la vie are both cracking shows, but imho there will be blood is a bit on the slow side and day-lewis has basically stepped back into gangs of new york mode to win his oscar, all big moustache and squinty eyes, but thats the oscars for you. gerry
Its very rare for Best Actor Oscar to be awarded twice to the same person, DDL got it for My Left Foot as well, so he does have a pretty wide range of talent....was No Country very violent? mockney piers
Without doubt DDL has to be one of the best actors of his generation but he is in danger of going a bit Al Pacinoey isn't he.Not that I don't love Al Pacino or anything, it's just that post Scent of a Woman you rather know what to expect from his performances. Maybe he figured "That won me an oscar, I'll keep at it." Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2718-the-oscars/#findComment-82423 Share on other sites
mattham
it's true Al Pacino does sail a little close to the wind of self parody. Hoo Haah! I can't help laughing at any shouty line he does now. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2718-the-oscars/#findComment-82436 Share on other sites
gerry
I blame that trap on the directors who want AP to be the same as he was in the Godfather, over and over again!! citizenED
Just wish the screenwriters had remained on strike til after the Oscars so we didn't have to endure such guff and puffery Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2718-the-oscars/#findComment-82449 Share on other sites
SeanMacGabhann
I thought Pacino was the model of understated acting in Devil's AdvocateOh, wait.... Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2718-the-oscars/#findComment-82451 Share on other sites
Moos
GerryNo Country was pretty violent, but although I am normally quite chicken about that, I found the story just carried you along with it. It seemed to be intrinsic to the film rather than gratuitous or voyeuristic. Not sure if that makes sense, but give it a try.
