Hi all i've been told by a school that you are not allowed to do online learning (ie giving lessons online) in primary schools for safeguarding reasons. I appreciate it may be down to budget as I've heard of multiple private schools that did this during lockdown but wondered if anyone knew of any state schools that had done/are doing it? I have gone on the govt website and couldnt find anything saying it was not allowed.

Thanks so much

Do you mean real time video conferencing (e.g. Zoom?) I've not heard of state schools doing that, and not sure how if would work in a class of 30 children.

But during the spring lockdown our school were giving the kids daily videos (usually on YouTube) as well as PDF work sheets, etc. We submitted the work every day by uploading a photo to an app. It worked well, but took up a lot of parents time, so quite tough when working from home.

It's true, the local authority advised primary schools against it. I felt and feel like you - i.e. that if private schools can offer zoom lessons and enable kids to keep up with schoolwork then why not state primaries? The whole thing is absurd. In France they had a central system whereby all children could log in and do their work. Why can't England be as organised?! Government shambles.

Training during the pandemic changed its format very much and very often it was not for the better. But our school gave the children daily videos and tasks. It was quite effective, because every day the children passed their assignments, but this format of education took a lot of time from parents, so it was not the best.

    • Ideally I imagine it should be separated from household waste as it's a public health hazard, just like you'd put nappies in strong bags after wrapping them up. Dog poo does seem to be everywhere so I definitely think there should be more dog poo bins again. Again back to cost I imagine. Round in circles we go!
    • I have to wonder who's going to benefit from the Trump tarrifs  Possibly those in tje know who dumped their shares before it happened, banked the cash,  bought shares at rock bottom  and are now waiting for stock that crashed to go up again and make a fortune. But the bigger losers will be Americans who expect industry to move their factories to America, provide jobs and revive the economy, 20 years ago that could have happened but since then most factory jobs can now be done by robots  including warehouse movements, and if a tech company is going to build a new factory they will obviously use robotics and maybe AI to do the work, which means a gluten of goods and no one with the cash to buy them.  America will go into another depression and take the rest of the world with it. Forget the issues Liz Truss and Rachel Reeves combined have caused the economy, the trump tarrifs will make them look like saints by comparison.
    • Perhaps someone who works there owns a Tesla and is keen to promote more sales. After all poor Musk needs all the support he can get right now 😢
    • Well unless you have a different user name  you weren't actually commenting on this at all - i was responding to the posters who had concerns about the wooden planters falling apart.   Do carry on though...
