In addition to the petition, we are going to publicly discuss the Dulwich impacts of the New Policing Model with the SNT sergeants and Chief Inspector at the Dulwich Community Council meeting on this Monday night, the 22nd Apr.

So, if you want information directly from the horse's mouth or to make your views heard, then you are welcome to attend.

The meeting will be held at Kingswood House on Seeley Drive (next to where the College ward police "step off point" is located), SE21 8QR.

This item is due to begin after the break at 8.40pm.

I'm slightly puzzled by James' statement that architects 'believe' the current Dulwich hospital building to be of poor build quality.

James could you elaborate? What is thought to be wrong with the building, is it structurally unsound and in danger of collapse?

It seems to me that it may be easier for various vested interests to do what they want with the site if the entire building is demolished and they can start from scratch, in that any attachment to the past has been erased and objections subsequently weakened.

I'd hate to see that bulding entirely disappear, especially if the rationale that the existing building is of 'poor build quality' turns out to be a 'belief' born of some political agenda and not a reality.

Why not use the original ED police stn site in crystal palace/north?

The police station in Crystal Palace Road, has holding cells and all the facilities necessary for East Dulwich, it served East Dulwich very well for years, Until some bright spark decided it was not big enough and decided to build a new one in Lordship Lane, and now it seems we do not need any sort of police station in East Dulwich. Now they have decided to over develop East Dulwich, and bring in more people and traffic, it seems to me, what with all these cut backs going on, because of the incompetence of Local Councils and the Government, Now is the time we need a police station, it?s probably one of the reasons crime figures are down, people just can?t be bothered anymore to report crimes etc, as nothing is ever done about them. And make no mistake crime figurers may be down according to the Gov stats, but they are still increasing and even more so because of the cut backs.

WE NEED A POLICE STATION IN EAST DULWCH.

Because we no longer have a goverment in this country only a agency for the E.U directing the coalition people.

Their main priority is to build in every available place(except their country seats) so they can accomadate the masses of migrants already arriving.

So what jobs will they do, ridiculous the migrants that came here in the fifties from Jamaica, and now their grand children still have no jobs so whose telling porkies about work there isnt any.

No manufacturing no factories a big fat nothing for any of us. the only reason for more migrants coming here is the

dictatorship that is the Europpean Union that is doomed, It hasnt done anything for any country in it just a select few have it easy. Germany mainly.

So any space in E.D will be solely for migrant intake. I for one will vote for UKIP .

and hope James Barber joins them in their endevours to save us from the E.U meglomaniacs.

True Blue are we Quids or is it Euros, L.O.L.

I was going to remove the spittle from my keyboard, then i thought oh no i am lazy,i,ll wait for a new migrant worker to do it for me.

As for logic, tell us what has the European Union done for you, truly.

The state we are all in proves it didnt work, forty two years and we are all fxxxxd.

Thats why there is no police station in Lordship Lane, you havent got the logic to work that out its you thats barking

I gather your able to buffer yourself from all the hardships being imposed on the rest of us then.

Must be nice to feel smug and superior.

Any goverment elected is impotent.Strasburg runs it now. Unless we vote different. Wait and see Mr Logic, times are

changing we are not all sheep led by Judas goats, maybe you are though.

Far right parties like the UKIP and BNP prey on disaffected voters like Tarot, who want somebody to blame for all our problems, so point the finger at immigration. Luckily most people have the intelligence to see through it.

Decline in manufacturing has nothing to do with immigration. The recession has nothing to do with the EU. And none of this has anything to do with the sodding police station.

Sadly the Met have sold the old East Dulwoch Police station - junction Crystal Palace Road/UPland Road.

I've had a number of queries to the Met asking how a developer could buy the current Police station so we can encourage a more community minded developer to buy it and provide a new Police base.

If anyone can work out who to talk to at the Met about property.

As per letter from Montagu Evans, Chartered Surveyors to households in the area, The old police station has been sold to Dulwich Property Holdings Ltd who intend to develop the site for housing. The proposal is to build five town houses in Upland Road opposite the garden centre. The house that is presently boarded up is to be converted into four flats. The houses will comprise a basement (kitchen and dining area), ground floor living room, another two floors comprising two bedrooms on each floor and an attic with one bedroom and a bathroom. No parking spaces have been allocated to this housing development. If the plans had been for (say) three town houses on two floors it would have been acceptable, but to build houses incorporating three floors and a basement is out of character with the immediate surroundings and should not be allowed.

    • The lack of affordable housing is down to Thatcher's promoting sale of council properties. When I was working, I had to deal with many families/older folk/ disabled folk in inferior housing. The worst ones were ex council properties purchased by their tenants  with a very high discount who then sold on for a profit. The new owners frequently rented out at exorbitant prices and failed to maintain the properties. I remember a gentleman who needed to be visited by a district nurse daily becoming very upset as he rented a room in an ex council flat and shared kitchen and bathroom with 6 other people  (it was a 3 bed flat) the landlord did not allow visitors to the flat and this gut was frightened he would be evicted if the nurse visited daily. Unfortunately, the guy was re admitted to hospital and ended up in a care home as he could not receive medical help at home.   Private developers  are not keen on providing a larger percentage of 'social housing' as it dents their profits. Also a social rent is still around £200 plus a week
    • Hello, I was wondering if others have had experience of roof repairs and guarantees. A while back, we had a water leak come through in our top floor room.  A roofer came and went out on the roof to take a look - they said it was to do with a leak near the chimney.   They did some rendering around the chimney and this cost £1800 plus £750 for scaffolding (so £2,550 total).  They said the work came with a 10 year guarantee. About a year later, there was another leak on the same wall, which looked exactly the same size and colour as the previous leak. But it was about 2 metres away from it, on the other side of a window.  I contacted the roofer about this new leak, thinking it would be covered by the guarantee. However, he said the new leak was due to a different and unrelated problem, and so was not covered by the guarantee. This new leak, he said, was due to holes in the felt underneath the tiles. He said there are holes in the felt all over the roof (so if this was the cause, I expect the first leak may have been caused by that too - but he didn't mention the holes in the felt for the first repair). It feels like the 10-year guarantee doesn't mean much at all.  I realise that the guarantee couldn't cover all future problems with the roof, but where do you draw the line with what's reasonable?  Is it that a leak is only covered if an identical leak happens in exactly the same place?  There were no terms and conditions with the guarantee, which I didn't question at the time.
    • I always like Redemptions coffee though I've not visted for awhile..Romeo Jones was always my 1st choice for takeout Coffee Redemption 2nd. What IS with all these independent Yoga and Pilates Studios? Theres one on London Rd in Forest Hill (Mind) thats recently opened and then theres the Pilates place thats opened on North X Road. I looked at the prices of the one on NorthX road and was frankly shocked at how expensive it is, The FH one is slightly less.  Made me decide to stick with classes in The local authority gym
    • Dulwich Village update: The old DVillage location is (again?) under offer. The storefront next to the new grocer is going to open as a yoga and pilates studio...the name of which I've forgotten. 🤦‍♂️  Megan's is starting to push its takeaway coffee and cannibalise some of Redemption Coffee's market share. Is Megan's struggling? It's quite a big restaurant they have and rent cant be cheap. The reinventing of the Megan's branch on Lordship Lane as Ollie's seems to have stalled. And Redemption is looking a bit tired these days...
