Lewisham Hospital Community Midwives keep a box of clothes & baby bits which I think is for those who they consider need it/need some extra help. I'll need to check tomorrow, but if that's the case, they might well welcome some hooded towels? If you're in ED then I'm happy to come & collect. Can I get back to you on it (if they haven't already gone)?

Hi Helen -

There's a lovely local-ish charity (Lee, near Blackheath) called Lee Oasis. I donated my moses basket, breast feeding pillow, unused nappied and lots of baby clothes recently - and they came and picked up.

Their website says: "We re-home donated furniture, household items and baby equipment free to families leaving hostels and disadvantaged people of all ages around Lee, SE12 and surrounding areas.

We receive referrals from resettlement hostels, supported housing services, health visitors, women's refuges, refugee workers, Connexions and the drug intervention program DIP."

    • Cuppa with a copper has been around for a couple of years, maybe longer. Some of you may remember WPCs Trish and Deepa who regularly held informal sessions at Christ Church. They found out more what was going on in the neighbourhood, what scams were about, who was causing trouble etc, burglary, intimidation, drug dealing etc. People, especially Mums with young children and older people felt more comfortable in this informal environment. Trish and Deepa's informal sessions were expanded later after pandemic to the roll out across the borough of 'Cuppa with a Copper'. There have been a number of such events in ED - Dawson Heights, a PH in Forest Hill Road. Many areas in London and England operate similar initiatives.
    • This is why the NFU are so unhappy that Clarkson is involved as it distracts from the issues for real farmers. Your assumption that all land is purchased as a tax dodge is a wide sweeping dog whistle generalisation and, I suspect, a long way from the truth but something to government would love for people to think.
