jumpinjackflash
That little French place - 'Mon Petit something or other - on Lordship Lane is lovely although probably just as busy. Petitou's menu is SOOOOOOOOOOO monotonous. SeanMacGabhann
Alan has put this in the ED section SOLELY with the purpose of seeing if it gets lounged - if it does there will be some wibbling about how Nunhead thread don't get lounged. Peckhamgatecrasher
Petitou is ok if you don't smoke, don't shave, don't crave meat and you have a high tolerance for wingeing weans. Nero
Petitou is good, but it has upped its babby and buggie quotient over the past two years. It's not that great if you want a quietish sit down and a read of your paper. If you do, be prepared to sit outside! And the menu IS boring after a while. All in all, though, a good place. Bellenden Belle
I always wanted to live in the Bellenden area - but hubby wasn't keen. I suspected that despite being "a working class hero", hubby had bourgeois tendencies. We gave up househunting in Peckham Rye.One day I took him to Petitou. We sat under a tree surrounded by beautiful children wearing Boden gear. The sun shone down on the lovely townhouses that line Choumert Grove. The food was delicious; the coffee great. Hubby's shoulders relaxed; a happy sigh. And there he was. Sold. We found our house three months later. It must be said we now go; get irritated waiting for a seat; flinch at the screaming children; wait forever for our rather expensive food; and moan about how pretentious it all is ....but the irony is not lost on me and I will always have a fondness for the place. mightyroar
it's true the place rocks. But there shouldn't be an apostrophe in the title of this thread. That's why it should be lounged. for grammatical reasons. macroban
Grammar looks OK to me as a contraction of cafeterias. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2703-petitou-more-baby-friendly-cafes-needed/#findComment-82046 Share on other sites
Nero
It's cafes. As in CDs and '80s. And Petitou could open a branch somewhere else, to keep it on thread? Bellenden Belle
An excellent response Macroban but surely one must first determine the writer's intention? A cafeteria conjures up very different images and emotional reponses in a reader than a caf?.Cafeteria - slop waiting to be doled out on some poor sod's plate, followed by chocolate custard (congealed)and sponge puddings. Caf? - a place to relax, indulge, converse, peruse papers, eat fine food, served by charming staff....And to keep on thread, Petitou can only ever be a caf?. But I don't want a chain of them thank you - its individual character is what counts. macroban
Do you mean caffs?Perhaps it's better to stick to the English term "snack bar" to avoid solecisms? macroban
Pleased you noticed the missing accute (which rather supports my analysis).Whatever. It is a very nice snack bar. Moos
Not to nitpick, but if it comes to staying on thread, note that the title was 'more baby-friendly caf?s needed', not 'let's complain about babies in caf?s'(moderated by me to reduce strength of expression... sorry... can't take the red wine no more) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2703-petitou-more-baby-friendly-cafes-needed/#findComment-82119 Share on other sites
bald marauder
Alan, have you not tried the Montpelier, just up the road? Their food is less snacky, granted, but they seem to be very happy for people just to stop in for a coffee. And it looks like the Wishing Well is selling its lease - you're soon going to be spoilt for choice in Bellenden.
