"17/02: Taking Action Against Estate Agents

Category: Events 88 Posted by: Admin

Monday March 3rd at 3pm sees Class War's picket of Foxtons in Islington, in a demonstration against the

greatest con-men of our time - estate agents.

There is however a lot that can be done before then (and afterwards!) - and not just towards Foxtons. Many estate agents routinely break the law by placing advertising signs without permission on council property, and sometimes on private property. The pictures below, from Chester Road in Stretford, Greater Manchester, illustrate the arrogance of these bastards.

One very simple way to fight back against the damage estate agents are doing to our communities is simply to take these signs down where ever you find them. Don't let them advertise - illegally - over-priced properties in your community. Don't let them damage the environment with their crappy cardboard and plywood signs. Lets take these signs down, and return them to the estate agents concerned - the bigger this campaign gets, the better it gets for us, and the worse it gets for the likes of Foxtons.

Lets get busy! "

Reading class war snorky, why does that not surprise me?! (mid you I dip into a blog called Lenin's Tomb, so I can hardly talk)

Work has decided to block pretty much everything of late here since yesterday, including youtube, songza and no doubt the forum.

Of course doing lots unsanctioned development (and buying the odd beer) as favours for the network/IT security chaps has it benefits !!

I thought Ian Bone did still figure large in Class War? He was on the Bash the Rich demo at the end of last year in Notting Hill, no?

TBH, I don't think Foxton-bashing amounts to much either. Like Foxtons into ED, Class War attacking our favourite estate agent seems a bit johnny-come-lately ...

hes the elder statesman of anarcho chaos these days and doesnt get involved in the day to day subversion and state overthrowing. recently produced his autobiog, but Ive not got round to reading it yet.

Foxtons do somehow oprovoke an Ire in people that is hard to fathom or justify - sort of like hating Bono - you intrinsically hate him and logical reasoning doesnt really come into it or is even needed

I read his book Bash the Rich: True Life Confessions of an Anarchist in the UK the other Xmas - quite good, and very funny! I disagree with CW on tactics though - it now seems to be a re-run of past glories, rather than anything new.

True, Fuxtons (sic) do inspire a healthy anger in people, but I don;t think they cause gentrification, only try to make profits out of it. Also, they are way behind when it comes to ED - they should have been here ages ago. What I say to everyone who decries the existence of Fuxtons on LL is that I am surprised only that they did not move in sooner.

My brother once worked in an office block in which the floor below his was taken-up by a financial trading-type firm.

When the Mayday anti-capitalist march came around, the traders noticed that the march was to pass directly by their building - and that they could watch it go by from a balcony a few floors up.

A fair number of them popped-out during the lunch break. They nipped to the cashpoint and withdrew their daily limit, then stopped by the offie to buy bottles of champagne.

And so there they sat on the balcony as the march went past.. chinking champagne flutes and waving their wads at the marchers.

we can't agree on dog owners, secondary schools, cyclists, children, babies, working class, middle class, the wealthy, cookwank, gift shops, the co-op, the restaurants, caffe nero, 4x4s, the ed warehouse, headnizm or the merits of David Bowie's post-1983 output, so don't go spoiling the only common ground we've got, thanks.

I think I've finally worked out who you are snorky, with your hatred of bono and your bizarre upset from uxbridge style posts.

You are really Nigel Blackwell from Half Man Half Biscuit and his alter egos Charles & Maud Exford, Compton Mo'Fo, Nick Drake and co!

The Times is reporting on this today as well

So even the government is gunning for Foxtons. Why have they been singled out? The OFT report even says that their problem is "widespread in the lettings industry". So why aren't they prosecuting all the other estate agents and not just Foxtons?

It's discrimination! Foxtons needs our help.

Please help your local Foxtons. Call in to your local branch as ask to adopt an agent?
