Hello dear friends of the East Dulwich Forum.

I'm popping this post on to make you all aware of the new Georgian Restaurant which opened yesterday. It's on Lordship Lane opposite Co-op on the premises formerly held by Tart and Le Chardon... don't worry, they have continued to preserve the wonderful interiors.

Some of you might be unaware of Georgian culture, let alone experienced its magical cuisine. That's why I'm writing this post - because you should. For a small country, it punches way above its weight in terms of wine (it lays claim to its very invention!) and the food they sell at the moment is the perfect treat to accompany this. They also sell Borjomi mineral water, which is from a very famous mountain spa town in Georgia that the Romanovs used to frequent. It's very good, and apparently cures hangovers (I wouldn't know!).

Anyway, the reason for my post is to make you aware of the fact that it opened yesterday as a takeaway. So please pop in and say hello. They are a really nice team of people, and will welcome you wholeheartedly into their world, and their food and wine is wonderful; unlike anything you are likely to have experienced before.

oh - they are on social media too, so give them a follow...

take care

I have been to Georgia four times and can confirm the cuisine is fantastic, an interesting synthesis of east and west with lots of vegetable dishes, like mezze dishes. Lots of tarragon, aubergine, beetroot and ground walnuts. The wine is great but best drunk in the country itself where it is often made on farms and really quaffable. In particular they have the culture of the ?table? - big gatherings of people with many toasts - not the short 5 second ones in this country but often amusing, touching and thoughtful mini speeches - it is an art form and totally wonderful, after which tradition says you down the glass of wine in one. And yes, lots of Borjomi the day after! I hope the takeaway does really well, but the sitting down experience is really the thing, and look forward to it opening fully. Gaumajos!

Good to see someone brave enough to open a restaurant in these time

This will make a nice addition to the choice of eateries in Dulwich

Georgian food has a bit of a ?Middle Eastern? feel

Would it not be a good idea to post a menu on here?

Cannot locate a website where one can place an order or see the menu !

EDIT - just located website :-

https://www.kartuli.co.uk/

But no menu or booking form yet - I will be looking for a discount on my first Visit as I seem to be doing the PR for this venture

The website does have an extensive wine list tho!

Just for clarity, it's not my restaurant. I'm just really hyped about Georgian food and wine on our doorstep.

To my understanding, the food menu is being finalised, but below is a short video of a nice american couple trying a few Georgian staples that should give you an idea of what to expect

"Every Georgian dish is a poem", Alexander Pushkin

..... I would probably add that it's worth following them on whatever social media channel(s) you use with the links in my original post. That's probably the easiest way to keep up-to-date with their menu etc.

Cant wait - I visited Tbilisi a few years back and have amazing memories of the food, the wine, those crazy toasts and the incredible hospitality

Of particular note are the Khinkali dumplings - and the fact that they re-appear, deep fried, if you leave any

Good luck guys

The guys running this new new very welcome venture are clearly not looking at the posts on this forum

Which is a shame - presume not locals

Jocky - how did you come to find out about it and post on the forum ?

We are doing a great job of bumping up this post so lots of awareness without any effort from owners !

Hello Romnarz,

I came to find out about it because they've had signs up for a few weeks, and I've spoken with them a few times to find out about their new venture.

I think the golden age of the internet forum may have passed, so we may not hear from them on here; although I've shared the thread along with all of your kind words.

Do give them a follow on social media though, and make sure you pop in! Good people drink good wine, and the menu (once live) will be something to look forward to.

Seems a bit harsh to have a go at them for not being on the forum.

They're on the high street. That's an actual forum.

I was in no way having a go

Any new venture is welcome particularly in these difficult time

I certainly want this venture to succeed

Locals are unlikely to book a meal if they don?t know about it

Every time someone write on here the venture gets bumped up the list so making it more visible

Due to CV I cannot get up n about so would not have seen any sign of opening at the premises.

It might be useful to tell the owners about the forum to maximise publicity

Once we are able to be up n about am looking forward to a meal there

I tried some take away from this new Georgian restaurant last night. First ever customer apparently. Food was very tasty. Prices were OK, perhaps slightly high. I'd like to visit when their restaurant is properly open (it's only take away for now). Seemed to have a good selection of wines as one would expect from such a restaurant.

How did you order please - directly or via deliveroo or similar?

I placed my order over the phone and then I went to collect it in person. They don't do a home delivery service yet but I understand that this will be coming soon.

I tried one of their filled breads (not the cheesy khachapuri), a selection of cold starters and the pork & beef dumplings.

They turned my old, crumbling conservatory in East Dulwich into a gorgeous extension with a laundry area, a dining space, with some lovely bifold doors. On top of that, they sorted out my garden, paved the side return, and even did some tiling at the front of my house—all of it looks fantastic. What I really appreciated was how easy they were to work with. Their pricing was competitive, they kept me updated throughout the whole process, and they were happy to hear my ideas while also suggesting the best options for materials and costs. It felt like a real collaboration, and I’m so happy with how everything turned out.
