I'll tell you an anecdote. You can make your own mind up. A few years ago I was planning to pay several hundred pounds on a lounge carpet. I duly went into LL Carpets to get a quote. There were two sales people and a few other customers. One was putting in a large order. I hung on for ten minutes or so listening in to the sales conversation, clearly there was a big deal going on. The other salesperson finished with his customer and went out back.

Customers came and went, after receiving no attention from the sales staff. I waited for either the lucrative order to finish, or the other salesperson to return. After twenty mintues I politely enquired whether I would be served.

"Can't you see that I am serving someone" in a dismissive tone.

Then a knowing look and quiet word to the rich customer, "that told him didn't it!"

Result = I spent my money at another carpet shop.

I'd expect better service at a pub "who's next, sorry we are busy, I'll get to you soon"

Just briefly to compare with Hamptons International in the mid 90s when there was still a house recession going on. "Hello I'm interested in buying a flat in the Dulwich triangle" Certainly sir, fill in your details on this form (no one looked on line then!). No contact from Hamptons International, presumably because I arrived snotty on a bike, before they were trendy.

I have meant to write to LLC years ago. It is a bit churlish to do this on line. But who cares.

Very churlish.

I am never happy when faced with poor service but to wait several years to raise a complaint, and to do so anonymously, is poor form.

I used LL Carpets exclusively to re floor our entire house over a three year renovation project. They were unfailingly helpful, polite and very flexible over working around an ever changing timetable.

The tenor of your comments seems, tto me, to indicate that you have something of a chip on your shoulder.

I went in once for a quote for 1 bedroom and found them very snotty. Not interested as it wasn't a mega bucks order for them. They wanted ?500 for basic plain carpet in smallish kids bedroom. They asked about doing the whole house. I said we had polished floorboards on the ground floor and they laughed at me and said I would be back for carpets after a harsh winter. They rude, snotty and disinterested and it has stuck with me too. Most people don't buy carpets too often and so it is a strange new world when you venture into it so easy to remember good / bad service.

This is the forum at its worst; using it to have a pop at a local business during a recession. The correct thing to have done would have been to raise the issue privately with the shop at the time or shortly afterwards. Maybe you were correct in your summary but this isn't appropriate. The shop owners may not be online (not everyone from ED is on here) and here you are writing something potentially damaging to their future that they can't respond to because they won't remember it now.

Regarding your comparison of service in a pub; people very often get completely missed out at a bar because for one reason or another they aren't seen. Happens to me all of the time. Then you get "oh sorry, didn't see you there, what would you like?".

"Who cares" you say. That speaks volumes about you. A lot of us care about the health of our high street.

Show him your assets.

That story sounds very familiar - feel like I read something very similar on here a few years back. Would have been when we were looking for new carpets after our loft conversion so... late 2009 or early 2010. We did eventually use LLC for some of our carpets and found them to be very good.
We used them to recarpet our downstairs double reception rooms, upstairs hallway and two flights of stairs, and the service was great. Their price was competitive and they did a great job. After laying our reception room carpet one of the guys noticed a (tiny, I never would have noticed it) flaw near a corner of the room, and they took the whole lot up and replaced it. Thumbs up from our household.
They quoted us ?340 for 6 stairs, so we bought it from them and got EJ Carpets from Forest Hill to fit it, worked out at ?200 all in from what I remember, they weren't happy when we just asked for the carpet, very rude to my husband and dismissive, but we wanted to carpet so put up with it! EJ Carpets were very efficient and cheaper

I used PM Bennison to install my new central heating. He was a nice chap, as were his workers. And when I met his wife to settle the account she was nice as well. I felt that they were good value for money, I shopped around a little, and I am technical minded and perhaps could have cut corners and had it done cheaper. I'll happily recommend them to others.

I didn't say don't use Lordship Lane Carpets, I just recounted an experience. They are still in business and are clearly doing something right. It just stunned me and amused me that a salesperson could be so dismissive. Good will and word of mouth goes a long way.

But of course secretly I do hope that the pompous salesperson does read this site.

I was amused by giggirl though.

And on reflection should have labelled this thread as 'poor customer service experience' rather than LL carpets. Clearly I am still scarred by the exeperience. And being black balled in Dulwich Village by Hamptons International.
