Charlotte W
I have always slept like a log, I once slept through a burglary and most of the chaos that immediately followed it, until about 4 years ago when I found I was waking up in the early hours of the morning and found I could not get back to sleep.I decided to find out what natural remedies there were for insomnia and to my surprise found something that worked the very first time I used it. It involved a pressure point on the forearm and a humble kidney bean. I had to tape a kidney bean between the tendons found on my lower arm and go to bed with it. I actually woke up during the night but I went straight back to sleep without any difficulty. I did this for about 3 or 4 nights. It worked so well that if I woke up in the morning but did not get out of bed straight away I ended up going back to sleep and oversleeping. I was able to sleep through the night without the aid of the kidney bean from then on. Over the last 4 years I have had bouts of disturbed sleep but each time I have used the kidney bean to overcome the problem.I know that insomnia is quite a common problem and would like to know if anyone else has used this method successfully. I would also be interested to find out if any insomniacs reading this would be willing to give it a try and let me know how they get on.The method is described in the following link: http://www.livestrong.com/article/110734-pressure-points-fall-asleep/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/26892-a-natural-remedy-for-insomnia/ Share on other sites

Voyageur
OP does seem to be a ruse to flog summat and/or get people to peruse a webiste, however....I am a right old insomniac and have been using acupuncture pressure points at the somewhat ridiculously termed 'inner gate' and 'spirit gate' on the inner wrist for a few years - it seems to help, although I am pretty much convinced that this is psychosomatic. Here's a guide to the points if anyone is interested http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_4422401_find-sleep-inducing-pressure-points.htmlSod the fiddly kidney bean palaver though, I use these http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51ywqOGxlRL._AA160_.jpg (and no - I don't flog them!). Peckhamgatecrasher
Red wine - that well known soporific. That and lettuce sandwiches, so much more pleasant than a kidney bean. Peckhamgatecrasher
You forgot the lettuce sandwiches, stoopid. And you wake at 3am due to withdrawal symptoms, not stimulant effect. Jeremy
I often have trouble sleeping, but it's usually because of sleep anxiety... worrying about not being able to sleep, and how tired I'm going to be tomorrow, etc. Perhaps things like the kidney bean method act like a sort of placebo - i.e. you're much more relaxed because you think you're going to sleep well. Huguenot
Nah Minkey, the link doesn't have to be so obvious to be a ploy:A site's position in Google results has a great effect on commercial success, and this position is largely dictated by the pagerank and relevance to the initial enquiry. The EDF has a higher page rank than the livestrong article, and by adding in a large amount of relevant 'puffer' text it makes the link from the EDF real and relevant. The article in its turn will bleed that pagerank to raise the profile of all the other pages on the livestrong site, and hence bump them up the Google search results.Hence the link 'bleeds' pagerank from the EDF to livestrong. That's what the spam was doing, not trying sell us kidney beans. Charlotte W
Apparently, one in 10 people in this country suffer from insomnia. Insomnia contributes to daytime tiredness, which can lead to accidents, illness as well as work and relationship problems. Furthermore, the NHS spent ?50 million pounds on sleeping pills last year. I think those are good enough reasons to share a possible solution that costs nothing if one has some kidney beans in a kitchen cupboard and some tape lying about the house. The method has worked for me over the past 4 years. It has also worked for people I have recommended it to but these have all been acute sufferers and I was wondering if there were any chronic sufferers on this site who might like to try it and provide feedback. I do not grow or sell kidney beans and I have no personal link to the website I mentioned. I chose it at random as it was the only one that came up when I did a Google search on the method. The original article I saw 4 years ago was written by a medical doctor but it no longer appears on the net. I?m genuinely interested to know if chronic insomnia sufferers gain any relief using this method.
