PN33
Hello,I am working on a project and I need to gather some research about spending cuts with regard to local councils and the gap between what people want and what they?re currently getting. Obviously it differs region to region so I was hoping to get some input from the varied demographic in East Dulwich (I don?t have kids for example so can only really speak for myself!) If there was an endless pot of money available, what community based items/services would you like to see in/around ED? I don?t mean businesses, but things ordinarily funded by the council such as park benches, playgrounds etc?Any help would be greatly appreciated! Strawbs
Selfishly Id like to see a ramp type thing on every street corner so I can easily cross a road with my pram (they are on most but not all). A hydrotherapy pool to take baby strawbs swimming in in the gym on CP road and a soft play, I currently use the peckham one which is good but you never know if you are going to get a park etc so can be a bit of a nightmare with a baby.. Id like my roads cleaned more regularly, I fail to know why but my driveway always seems to end up looking like a shit tip with rubbish, fried chicken boxes etc none of which is from us and our street is strewn with dog poo a lot of the time, I'd love for that to be cleaned up more regularly.Im very happy with playgrounds and parks in the area. There isnt a lot that my 1 year old can use in the playground besides the special swings but not much can be done in that respect..Hope that helps.. Jeremy
Libaries... I think the emphasis should be on modernising the library system, not just creating more of the same. I don't personally think there's a long term future for the conventional format of a large building stacked with books. It seems sad, but printed text will soon become obosolete. womanofdulwich
I don't want more libraries- I just want to retain them-and open at the fantastic hours that Lordship Lane is- they are great - access to a pc- wi fi- and all those books which young children need. Annette Curtain
A bike warden, with clout. You know those ride-along-dressed-in-black-with-no-lights-on type of cyclists. Yeah you do, ?500+ bike, all the garb, no lights.Well, this warden would leap out, ram a broomstick through their spokes, and then motorists would be given the chance to crumple the stupid bike under the wheels of their cars. The warden would then crack the offending cyclist in the nethers, with said stick. And pedesterians could mock them from the safety of the pavement.Oh and, I want a cannon on my car, for that idiot who breaks through the light, the rugger shorts guy, wearing long sock, no helmet and all sweaty. As his wazzocky face looks round, i'd like to fire a soggy loaf filled with English mustard right into it. Again, running his silly suspension mountain bike over, until it was flat.Any chances ? The ED Wilberforces
I'm sure I'm just dreaming, but I would love to see safe bike routes for children, especially to get to school - either to ride themselves, or be transported in a Dutch-style 'bakfiets'. Even more ideal would be if this could be on car-free paths with minimal pollution. At the moment the car is king, but in a few years, with a bit of will from the council and community, it could be achieved and we could all benefit from a cleaner London. kiera
I'd like to be able to speak to the staff I'd like to speak to when phoning the council, instead of having to speak to call centre staff who can't do much more than take a message.i'd like the trees to be lightly pruned only as often as necessary, rather than drastically massacred once every three years.New tree plantings, not just replacements.i'd like to see park keepers back in the parks in sufficient number to not be afraid to challenge bad behaviour, keep order, and encourage respect for the plants, wildlife and park users- so people with small dogs aren't afraid to go in the parks and children can feed a squirrel without risking a dog rushing up and ripping it apart.I'd like to go back to the elderly not being fined for overdue books in the libraries - a particularly mean way for the council to have raised money, at the same time as they got rid of the mobile library.Keeping records of dead pets found on the road, scanning them for microchips and notifying owners. That will do for now - also agree with many previous suggestions - youth activities, improved out-of-hours services and dropped kerbs on every corner. Is the council going to see your completed work?
