Nigello
This bit of Goodrich is different. It was narrowed by half FOR SAFETY years and years ago. Since then traffic has grown and the lorries are heavier, more frequent and more likely to come down not knowing IT?S HALF WIDTH. How?s that for SAFETY? Also, the school told the council it didn?t have the resources to manage a barrier, which I think is fair enough. Anyway, it?s in someone else?s hands now higher up than council level. Watch this space! malumbu
Brakes are the food of the devil and responsible for the same pub meals from Cornwall to Cumbria. As they are owned by an American firm they will be one of the first to sell chlorinated chicken. Surely in ED schools can get their food delivered by cargo bike or simply grow their own. Disclaimer, these comments are purely in jest. Rockets
Our collective views on Brakes as a company aside (Malumbu I share you thoughts entirely - how dare schools not be using cargo bikes ;-)) - this is not a huge lorry trying to find it's way around the backstreets using Waze it is a lorry delivering (I presume the school meals) to the school that now has nowhere to stop due to the bollards that have been put in in front of the school, I presume these bollards are a pre-cursor to the Goodrich closure being put in?Did Goodrich ever agree to the measures that are about to go in? I heard they said to the council that they weren't what the school wanted - or was that because the gate would need to be manually operated by someone from the school? legalalien
Southwark Cyclists? tracker, which I came across earlier, says plans have changed. There was a decision made in favour of closure but no TMO seems to have been put in place. There is another batch of schools streets due to be announced so could be in that.https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1eBxvYUYgFti9qYPZtl8FX0jTs74CnFHqaOKLk4UAwgw/htmlview Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/267068-dulwich-lsp-phase-2-no-access-for-cars-townley-road-to-east-dulwich-road-from-22-october/page/2/#findComment-1461715 Share on other sites

It's one of the largest (if not the largest) primary schools in the borough -- how can they possibly not have the resources ? Especially given every other school nearby seems to manage it. And, in any case, if child safety is the priority, then they ought to be helped to find those resources !> This bit of Goodrich is different. It was narrowed> by half FOR SAFETY years and years ago. And where do you expect these heavy lorries to go ? Down the other two sides of the school, where the main entrances lie ? So it's fine to have children endangered, just as long as the traffic isn't going past your front door ? mrwb
Presumably the idea is to "re-educate" the parents from Alleyns who use Townley road when dropping kids ?With a secondary objective of income from all the PCNs, guessing council finances are in dire straits due to Covid ? Rockets
Many thanks DKHB.. your erudite contribution to this debate is so welcome!Anyway, back to business...see how Cllr Newens grandstands to her neighbours how she is working to get traffic out of the village quicker to cause congestion on EDG and onto Lordship Lane....hurrah, she says, now the problem is Cllr McAsh's...She doesn't seem too keen to engage people in a debate about the displacement....see some of the comments.. slarti b
Sue Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> I turned right into Townley Road from East Dulwich Grove today. Have I missed something here?Southwark has not implemented the phase 2(?) measures yet and, even when they do you will still be able to turn right from EDG into Townley. If they are consistent and keep north and south bound symmetrical this means they will probably introduce a phase 3 to divert traffic along EDG and LL by closing off that right turn (as per the OHS proposals) but this has not happened yet. I guess the residents and business's on EDG and LL will be keeping their fingers crossed this will be delayed as long as possible. Rockets
yes you will be able to.Not sure the cameras are in yet anywhere - Cllr Newens is putting pressure on TFL to get them in this week in the Village but nothing had gone in this morning. I suspect TFL will be needing to look at how road signage will need to change in other places as they need to ensure people are aware of the closures - for example, you have to alert traffic on the A205 signage that there are going to be times when you now can't get through the Village.Cllr Newens will be desperate for these to go in before the school return as it will likely be chaos if they go in in the middle of a school week.
