A friend of mine had a problem a couple of years ago where he was chucking up all this orangey vomit. It turned out that the valve that keeps the acid in the stomache had eroded and so acid was getting up in to his system. The valve regenerates, so not a permanant issue.

No idea whatsoever if this could be a similar thing, but the brownish vomit made me think of it.

Poor little Strawbs and poor you too, it is so draining and I imagine the worst thing is not having answers. the impedance test is very clever and not as invasive as you might think, i do hope you get a date for it soon. Hope you managed to get some rest. At least be reassured that the best people are looking into it and trying to find the cause.

Hi all

Well I have a happy update to give, finally! In sheer desperation I pulled out every item of food that baby strawbs was consuming and went through it with a fine tooth comb and was shocked to find he had been ingesting some diary and soya we didnt know about such as we had just introduced some gravy when he has roast chicken but it has soya in it, we as a household use McCain oven chips but my partner had picked up some aunt bessies and low and behold they have milk in them!! His dietician had always told us to not bother switching him to dairy and soya free bread as it had trace elements in it but I promptly threw out everything in my house that might affect him in any way and switched to free from bread and have also restricted his wheat and gluten intake (not entirely on dietician's orders) and I can happily report we havent had an episode since!!! We are now on day 7 and he is eating like a champion and finally putting on some weight.

His pecialist advised we should still do the camera test as whilst all of this was going on they ramped up his reflux meds to the absolutely maximum he can have so they want to 100% rule out the reflux causing this particular issue and wean him off the meds.

Dietician advised he is clearly sensitive to even trace elements so we now have no flex in his diet at all i.e. no more normal bread.

I am so relieved I could honestly almost cry writing this, I thought there was something seriously wrong with my baby boy and it is likely going to turn out to be an allergy. I will forever feel guilty that I let my gestapo grip loosen on checking his foods with a fine tooth comb but Im sure he will forgive me one day!

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who responded on here and also to all the private messages..

Great news, what an enormous relief. So glad for you. Top tip; get a panasonic bread maker for Xmas (I convinced Hubble he wanted one for his bday!)- you can make a milk loaf containing oat milk (so fortified with calcium) by sticking the ingredients (we use pure sunflower spread too) in and setting the timer on it overnight-makes yummy bread, and you can rest assured there is no soy in it. Its also great fun getting lo involved in sticking the ingredients in.The east Dulwich bakery does rolls that are soy free (have checked and much of the other local bakery's are not clear re where there is soy in their bread or not), oh, think blackbird may be ok, but check for dairy as I can't remember (we avoid all except edb). Really pleased for you. Relax now and have a lovely weekend with your wonderfully healthy family.xx

Sorry, edited to say Panasonic, not ken wood (thought ours was latter but it's not so dont know how good they are/if they exist!)

Well done for working it out. I know how long it can take before it suddenly clicks! I've made that mistake with aunt bessie chips too!!

What a relief!

ps also my dairy allergic and soy intolerant daughter was definitely a bit funny with wheat when she was a baby - we have no problem with it now but have also just started making our own bread again - we go through phases of it. It's so annoying how bakeries use soya flour in everything.

pps waitrose do chocolate drops (moo free) that are dairy and soya free. So he never need miss out!

Only just seen this - so glad you were able to pinpoint it in the end. Don't feel bad...we were so lax with T's diet, and for the most part got away with it - you only learn with stuff like diet by trial and error really, as is evidenced by the fact the dietician hadn't specified some of the steps you took which made all the difference. Really glad he is doing so well, you must be so relieved. xxx
