Covid-secure social cycle rides Sat Sept 26th, free

Meeting up outside in groups of six is still OK so Southwark Cyclists is running two 6-person rides.

We will keep everyone as safe as possible by observing all the Covid Regulations. Most importantly we will be maintaining routinely a 2m social distance, never less than 1m. It will be particularly important to maintain social distancing from other users on shared paths. Riders should always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users can maintain 1-2 m and feel safe. Just in case we need them, it will be a good idea to bring a face mask (for coffee break on ride 2 and essential for Ride 1).

Ride 1. Greenwich to Canada Water via Wapping and Tower Bridge. 10am to 12 noon. Simon leading. This is a repeat of the ride we did with 6 cyclists on July 25th. It is unusual in two ways. First it is not going to finish where it starts. Second it will involve a trip on the DLR. Meet in front of Greenwich (main) station in Greenwich High Road, next to Novotel Hotel, NOT the DLR station where there are stairs. Catch DLR, platform 3 to Mudchute, about a 6 minute ride. (Anyone wanting to meet at Mudchute Stn. be there by 10.10). Skirt Mudchute Park to Westferry Road, on through Wapping to St Katherine's Dock, over Tower Bridge to end at Canada Water Library (Deal Porter Square). Mixture of (quiet) main road, CS3, cobbles & Thames Path. We are using DLR to cross the river, instead of using the Greenwich foot tunnel. With the selected stations, no stairs or lifts, just some ramps. Remember bring FACE COVERING & TRAVEL PASSES FOR DLR.

Ride 2. Royal Parks Loop ? Healthy Ride + . 10am to 1.30pm. Start/finish Park Life Cafe, Burgess Park, Chumleigh Gardens, SE5 0RJ. Jane leading. Usual easy-paced ride using lots of quiet streets and paths, but with some short stretches of busy road. Plan is to do a circular ride from Burgess Park to the Royal Parks. Out via Waterloo Bridge, Covent Garden and Bloomsbury to Regents Park. Probably coffee stop there, then via Marylebone to Hyde Park. Circuit of Hyde Park, possibly extending into Kensington Gardens, then down through Green Park and past Buckingham Palace and St James Park. Finishing over Westminster Bridge, through Kennington back streets to Burgess Park. Route at https://gb.mapometer.com/cycling/route_4989284.html. Last ridden Jan 18 th this year, see report with lots of photos at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/healthy-ride-reports-2020/royal-parks-loop-healthy-ride/
