Hi everyone,

So our electric oven broke over the weekend. It's a built-in under the counter single oven with a gas hob built into the counter above it. We want to replace it with a built-in double oven. There's some that will fit based on the existing dimensions so that's good. Question is though... do we need to worry about the gas hob above it or do ovens generally have enough space to accommodate the hob?

Anybody know??

Thanks in advance,

Phil

Doesn?t an oven (well, many of them) have a requirement for a specific type of socket behind the oven. It?s not just a case of a 13amp plug and fuse in many cases.

It?s why I?ve been putting my replacement on the long finger for years

Some ovens use a standard 13amp socket, some are hardwired into (I think 30amp) a higher capacity circuit. It will say on the spec of the oven. If it comes with a cord and a plug it will use a 13 amp socket. Happy to be corrected but that's my memory of when I replaced mine. It won't need any specific clearance above betwen the hob, they are all insulated.
