How much do you pay for your building Insurance?

I received a renewal notice from the Nationwide with a quote of ?556 and I have been with them for several years and paying similar amounts each year.

I went on the net and got it for ?210 from M&S.

When I phoned the Nationwide they said they would do it for ?349.80 but would not send me the revised quote and had to renew it then over the phone to get the revised rate.

Loyalty with finance companies does not pay.

Wow - that is quite a difference! We are paying about ?260/year, but I do know that it is worth checking on price comparison websites as they attract cheaper offers. In fact, when looking for car insurance I got ?100 off by going through a comparisons site as opposed to the company's own site - when I spoke to them, they told me that it's not unusual...
Our home insurance was with Saga, having received a renewal quote that had incrreased by 25% I contacted Discount Insurance, they dealt with my requirements very efficiently and our home is now insured with Royal & Sun Alliance, this policy comes with slightly better cover and is about 30% less expensive than Sags. Discount Insurance 020 8847 8000.
I pay about ?450/year. I had cheaper quotes, but sat down and read the small print for once and decided to pay extra for more robust cover. I used to always go for the cheapest option on price comparison sites until a friend's house suffered fire damage a year ago ago, and I witnessed (and am still witnessing) the agony he is going through trying to get them to cough up for stuff. It's been a real eye-opener.

I can. The best idea when dealing with anything like this is to get it in writing. If it's not written down, it didn't happen.

Err, loyalty never has. I change insurance company for contents, buildings, car, breakdown almost every year.

We also change energy suppliers regularly and I wouldn't hesitate to change banks if necessary.

Takes an hour a year but I save at least ?300 in the process.

Where was the abject outrage when Dynamic Vines opened up literally next door to Cave de Bruno? But I don't see his customers decamped next door - no, those stalwarts are still out in force every night.  In Roman times all businesses were clustered by product. It's what kept prices down. Same in any market you go to abroad, they're all selling the same things next to each other.  Why is everyone being so hard on this new place? It's called healthy competition - you can't curtail the expansion of your business on the basis you that might hurt someone else's.

    • In restaurant terms I would say a chain manifests when the motivation is no longer “we are a couple/small group who have an idea and love food” who open a restaurant, them another and then a few more BUT THEN PIVOT to “we need capital to rollout out new restaurants so we have leveraged the help of the following investors”  that is the moment it stops being about the chef/food on the plate and becomes about the spreadsheet  so it is POSSIBLE  for a restaurant to have 50 branches and not be a chain - but I can’t think of any  I don’t know chango - by based on the number of outlets they appear to have just crossed/or are about to cross that line
