The strangest detached house in East Dulwich

Tucked between the top end of Landells Road and Plough Lane is East Dulwich's quirkiest house. It's a narrow, detached* house that looks like it is sticking out of the back of Le Moulin restaurant. I guess few people even realise it is there. It seems to be an original Victorian house, and was derelict last year but clearly somebody bought it and has been doing it up. Anyone know anything about its history?

* as far as I can tell craning my neck over the fence.

When I was looking to buy in ED this house was on the market (18 months ago), it was on with a number of agents and was described as a wreck! It was for sale for ages..... presume someone has bought and renovated.

Yes, according to houseprices.co.uk it was bought in July 2007 for ?250k, so a property developer has spent quite a bit soing it up and is now hoping to make a bit of a killing out of the sale. Or in this market, maybe not...

I agree. From what I remember it needed everything doing so given nearly a year of interest payments plus the monies spent I suspect its in profit but not a killing.......

Gorgeous, but a smallish second bedroom, downstairs bathroom and nowhere to eat.

I really can't see them getting 399 for it.

Would have made a cool one bed place, one bed and bathroom upstairs and then lounge and kitchen diner downstairs. It does look nice :-)

on the subject of detached houses in ED, there is a stunning house on Colyton Rd that is being refurbished - think it could be number 5? Lovely house, lovely road and overlooking the Rye - the owners are very lucky!

The gorgeous house is 5 Colyton Road. It wins my vote for the most attractive house in SE22.

Trinity, you and I obviously have EXQUISITE taste sweetie darlin wot wot wot. Unless they have painted the house pink pebble dash, put up lace nets, and installed 10 satellite dishes in the past week, then Pearcesa you have definitely seen the wrong house.

Fair enough Pearcesa - each to his/her own. But I am intrigued by your 'Alice in Wonderland' comment. Are they planting white roses only to be painted red at some point?

Just take a look at the house and the furnishings inside and the 'summer house' at the back of the garden and maybe you will understand my comment!

I can't see the summer house or the furnishings - just the front of the house which looks pretty traditional. I think you must have a pretty good vantage point!

The owners two 'yappy dogs' have not engraciated themselves with a number of the neighbours either!

Anyway, as long as the owners of No.5 are happy with the renovations - I guess that's all that matters! ;-)

581 sq ft is very small, there are 1 bed flats around with similar floorspace! It looks quite nice though from the photos...

I am friends with the new owners of No. 5 Colyton......you may want to make an effort to get to know them before you jump to conclusions......
