Just wondered if this is normal or not as cant remember what our first daughter was like with solid food.

Our youngest turned 7 months on tuesday and we have been giving her finger foods etc but it seems like she hasnt mastered the art of chewing food yet as she seems to struggle/choke. she has her two bottom teeth and her top two have just cut through her gums.

Is this normal or should we get her checked out?

Way have you been giving her? I don't think they chew as such at 7m. It's more a case of jamming food into their mouths and chomping, sucking or tearing a chunk off then learning how to swallow it, hence much gagging and drooling and bits of food falling back out of their mouths.

Chunky chip sized pieces of peeled cucumber or low salt breadsticks are good at that age, iirc

No, I would not really expect a 7 month old to being chewing much. Learning to coordinate tongue and jaw movements while eating is complicated and takes time and practice for babies. It's common for babies to gag at this age. What seems like choking is almost certainly not choking, it's gagging. They're not the same thing. The gagging reflex is very sensitive in babies and children, and this actually provides some protection from true choking. The BLW book has lots of interesting information on this. xx

    • You can check online for your EPC at this stage what difference would it make?
    • Did you rent the property via an agent?  You should have been provided with an EPC and Gas Safety Cert when you took the property. Strange that the Landlord didn't do a check-in report as they wouldn't have a leg to stand on if they wanted to claim part of the deposit? If you are leaving anyway in a matter of days, I wouldn't bother about the EPC, it's not about safety just efficiency.
    • The EDT and BBC dilemmas feel like they could be solved by raising them politely with the managers, and the managers being sensible in response. No need for us all to have slanging matches online and calling each other names. We're all each other's neighbours...

He is clearly very knowledgeable, and was able to offer suggestions and make tweaks with ease when my odd Victorian building threw us curveballs.  Gabi provides an incredible level of support and reassurance, replying promptly to all queries and concerns. As a team they are incredibly well organised, and both dates and costs are clear. John has a great relationship with Howdens, securing me a great discount on the kitchen, and sorting any issues that arose quickly and calmly. After dealing with a number of aggressive workmen who overcharged me and turned up as and when they wanted, John and his team were an absolute breath of fresh air; friendly, courteous, hardworking and reliable.  I would wholeheartedly recommend Top Marx to anyone looking to have a new kitchen installed, I truly could not be more thrilled with the results!
