three social cycle rides Sat Aug 8th

Recommended Posts

Southwark Cyclists are doing two different rides. Why does it say three? Because we are doing one of them twice. Ride 2 has two waves of six riders -- the second wave is called Ride 3. To complicate matters still further the header information on Eventbrite, and the information on your ticket, covers the whole event and is not correct for rides two and three. The correct timings and locations for each ride are given in the details below.

So, now that's clear: you should choose the ticket for the ride you want. You can book a maximum of two tickets. Booking link: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/southwark-cyclists-healthy-rides-tickets-115731938343

Ride 1: this one goes from Burgess Park to Bishops Park, Fulham and back. It starts at 10am and should arrive back at 1.30 pm. Jane leading. It will start and finish at Park Life Caf?, Burgess Park, Chumleigh Gdns, off Albany Rd, SE5 0RJ. It's an easy ride with some nice off road and lots to see. The outward goes to Battersea Park, crosses Chelsea Bridge then Embankment, past Chelsea Harbour and Imperial Wharf to Bishops Park. Coffee break there and return across Putney Bridge, through Wandsworth Park, over the River Wandle, long stretch of Thames path to Battersea Park for the second time. Then through the new developments at the Power Station, along to Vauxhall, CS5 to the Oval then back streets mostly to Burgess Park. 17.7 miles. Ride 2. Canada Water-Blackfriars Rd - Deptford - Canada Water Loop. 10am to 12 noon. Bruce Leading. Easy ride that introduces you to the new, signed, Cycleways across north Southwark. These rides start and finish in Deal Porter Square, SE16 7AR. The ride will begin by picking up Cycleway 14 on the Albion Channel close to Canada Water. Follow CW14 past the Brunel Museum and the Salter Statues to Jamaica Rd. There will be a small diversion here as short bit of CW14 on Tanner Street is not finished. Continue past Guys Hospital and through Flat Iron Square to Blackfriars Rd. Ride the short stretch of Blackfriars Rd to CW1. Route heads back roughly parallel to CW14 through Trinity Square, past Crol Caf? on Dunton Rd, over the Connect 2 Sustrans Bridge, past Milwall Stadium, through Folkstone Gardens, eventually to Deptford High St. Probably turn here and head for the river, although if there is time the group will continue to Creekside. At the river pick up National Route 4, the Thameside route back to Canada Water. This becomes CW14 at South Dock and continues through Russia Woodland to the Albion Channel where we first joined it. If you want to become more familiar with the best routes E-W routes in the north of the borough, this is the ride for you. The route is here:

Ride 3 (same as ride 2). this is a second wave 2 of ride 2, Canada Water Loop. 10 ? 12. This is an experiment. This ride will be the same as the last ride (check details under Ride 2). Philippa will lead a second group of 6 on the same route. Group 2 will at all times remain separate from Group 1, but will try to keep them in sight. If this works, it may mean we can provide more opportunities to join a Healthy Ride as Ride Leaders do not have to map and recce a ride, can just piggy back on another one.

Please keep to Covid Guidance. 2m separation, no sharing equipment or drinks. Bring a face mask just in case.

    • Another shout for them. They picked us up at Heathrow on time and met us at departures. Clean car and friendly driver too. Only use them for an airport run but have always been reliable
    • 😮 I hope your pain has gone and you are feeling a lot better.  I'm a bit surprised a pharmacist would just give out antibiotics to someone who had  diagnosed their own need for them! Hopefully I have misunderstood,  and the questions he asked you served to confirm your diagnosis.
    • I have been training with Natalie for two and a half years.  I started when I finished my treatment for a serious health condition.  It has been transformational and I am now addicted to lifting weights.  Who would have thought that I would have discovered strength training in my 50s? Certainly not any of my friends.  If you are feeling a bit meh and your get up and go has gone,  I can highly recommend coming to the hub and Natalie in particular (although all the trainers are very good).  She is strict on good form but gently encouraging.  I love coming to the hub (even when it is cold and wet and the programme is challenging aka very difficult).  And unlike most gyms, it is not at all intimidating. To be recommended.
