Far from it! It is down at heel and largely provides Poundland and Wilkinson type shopping experiences - with some notable exceptions - and typically old school South London pubs. It does have plenty of lovely old houses though and is great for transport links, and up until recently boasted the oldest Nick in London. Funnily enough it reminds me now a little bit of LL/ED when I lived there in the early 80s (ED was the cheapest place we could find to rent!)..... hopefully it won't travel in the same direction ;)

It evidently had its glory days in past decades, and it is fondly remembered in the 'Penge Papers: Confessions of an Unwaged Metropolitan Husband' by Brian Wright.

Poirot probably got a headache from the honking of all those saxophones

ED has ukuleles, but they were invented somewhere else, I think

We've been Penged.* Bring on the ED Nandos and let's make a fight of it.

*From Urban Dictionary - To be "Penged" - a grudging acceptance that Peckham and Brixton are out of one's (ED's) league and that Penge is the true oppposition.

To be honest, I very much doubt Pengians would give a toss :)

Going along Lordship Lane yesterday made me think that although night time LL (bars and restaurants) may not have improved much in recent years I think it's daytime buzz has certainly improved. Better shops, streetside eating, northcross market etc. Which is good.
