demery
I've just seen (drove past) some kind of pitbull with badly inured cat between its jaws. It was getting shaken and mauled quite badly and not really moving. Last seen at junction of Underhill Rd and Lordship Lane. The dog then took the cat up the alley way by that junction (on the underhill road side of the road). The dog's young owner, brown hair curly eyes, possible wispy tache and a parker type jacket looked panic and was chasing after the dog. If anyone's cat is missing, you may wish to check the alley way to see if it's injured.d Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25870-cat-badly-injured-in-dog-fight/ Share on other sites
MaiMai
Ohh, what a shame, the poor cat, hopefully died of shock and did not suffer too much. smartk2
That's awful. Did you see the colour of the cat, it might help the owners identify if it's their missing cat. Mands
Blimmin heck...............my stomach churned reading this. As an owner of cats im horrified to hear that something like this has happened. I hope the cat is ok and im really feeling for the cat and its owner right now. They really must bring in some law to ensure that all dogs are kept on a lead at all times when out and about. (im presuming the dog wasnt on a lead)!! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25870-cat-badly-injured-in-dog-fight/#findComment-580274 Share on other sites

Just been out again and searched around underhill rd and through the ally way, still no sign of cat but not sure if ive searched in the right places ?so so sad Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25870-cat-badly-injured-in-dog-fight/#findComment-580298 Share on other sites
bonniebird
A bloody good reason for all dogs to be kept onlead walking on the street/housing estate/road where there are cats, other dogs, cars etc. Dogs should only be allowed offlead in the park where its safe. Its a bug bear of mine too, very cocky I think when I see it. Poor little cat :( gutted Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25870-cat-badly-injured-in-dog-fight/#findComment-580307 Share on other sites
pommie
i agree with you bonniebird although dogs being left off the lead in the park is not necessarily safe as they can attack other dogs too (as in a previous thread) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25870-cat-badly-injured-in-dog-fight/#findComment-580308 Share on other sites
owlwise
Such an awful thing to happen. Just hope the cat's found soon and is not suffering somewhere. ALL dogs should be kept on a lead when being walked on the streets. first mate
After the last thread where a number of us made this very point all I can say is proof, if proof were needed. But, what a horrible way to have the point made. If the rest of us always keep our dog on a lead, no matter how well behaved it makes the irresponsible owner, like this boy, stand out like a sore thumb. Lu
So is it actually illegal not to have a dog on a lead in the street? My friend's dog was killed by another dog that was off the lead and the police said there was nothing they could do as it involved two dogs and they could only intervene if a human was injured. first mate
Lu, I'm afraid it is rather more grey and complex. There is no overarching law, but there are bylaws which can be imposed by the council. It is the case that it is illegal for a dog to cross a public highway offlead. Gidget
Sadly, there was a cat in my street attacked a few months ago by a dog, he had lots of operations inc. an amputation and subsequently died. davidh
here we go. a cat is attacked by a "pit bull" and this is, of couse, all absolutely awful. but is is just yet another trigger for the dog-haters of the forum to slip their leash and start calling for dogs to on leads at all times and probably banned from the parks (as cropped up a few years ago when the then tory-lib council came close to bringing it in). what happened to the cat was horrible, but no reason to clamp down on every dog. was it really a pit bull? more likely a staff. staffs are not popular with the peckham rye park dog walking fraternity. we can all agree that the attack on the little cat was appalling. but we should not let it hurtle away into a dog-haters jamboree Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25870-cat-badly-injured-in-dog-fight/#findComment-580541 Share on other sites

Top Banana
Hello, first time poster and but been lurking for a bit. There are two similar threads about dog attacks http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,964844Surely it is not beyond the wit of those we elect to just say all dogs out in public must be muzzled? Or am I missing something? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25870-cat-badly-injured-in-dog-fight/#findComment-580638 Share on other sites
bonniebird
Top Banana, welcome to the forum :)Not ALL dogs need to be muzzled But its not rocket science that something has to be done to keep these owners in line, bring back the dog license and with the revenue, employ dog wardens and make it the law that all dogs should be kept on a lead on the street, road etc,(Not in parks, they need to be allowed to run, frolic, play) muzzles not needed. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25870-cat-badly-injured-in-dog-fight/#findComment-580648 Share on other sites
Top Banana
But a license will not stop a dog attacking a cat?A license will not stop a dog attacking another dog? A warden will not intervene in a dog fight. Surely the best idea is to muzzle. A dog can run free off the lead, it does not affect sight or hearing dogs, and stops these attacks overnight. This is from a guy who wants a dog when he has more time to look after it, and more space than I have right now.I fully agree with licensing, and wish it was brought back but the irresponsible don't care about licensing anyway. The Dangerous Dogs Act has had no impact whatsoever to those who don't care. Eliza.D
As a child we always had a dog. Now we have cats as we don't have the time to be responsible dog owners with all the attention dogs need, regular walks and a commitment to training them so that they respond to being called, don't attack other dogs, cats or people. I Totally agree that they should bring back a dog licence fee however nominal. When age 13 I had my first (mine all mine) dog (Tina) the one thing that I had to do was pay the the fee for the licence at the post office. The cost was 37p, name address and description of the dog. A dog is mans best friend so I wouldn't want some huge fee that would make dog ownership exclusive, a dog is a friend and a huge source of company whatever age you are. Jeremy
I think muzzled when off the leash is fair enough. Of course the vast majority of dogs don't need to be muzzled, but it's impossible to distinguish which dogs pose a threat. Huggers
jeremy both this incident and the other one (dog attacked my dog near goose green)featured dogs off lead in the street. If they had been on a lead a muzzle would have been neither here nor there. Dogs off lead on street=owner not paying attention or giving a f.
