I've just seen (drove past) some kind of pitbull with badly inured cat between its jaws. It was getting shaken and mauled quite badly and not really moving. Last seen at junction of Underhill Rd and Lordship Lane. The dog then took the cat up the alley way by that junction (on the underhill road side of the road).

The dog's young owner, brown hair curly eyes, possible wispy tache and a parker type jacket looked panic and was chasing after the dog.

If anyone's cat is missing, you may wish to check the alley way to see if it's injured.

Blimmin heck...............my stomach churned reading this. As an owner of cats im horrified to hear that something like this has happened. I hope the cat is ok and im really feeling for the cat and its owner right now.

They really must bring in some law to ensure that all dogs are kept on a lead at all times when out and about. (im presuming the dog wasnt on a lead)!!

This is so awful and really sad. As soon as i saw the post around 715pm i just had to run out and search to see if i could find the cat but unfortunatly no sign of the poor thing. Just been out again and searched around underhill rd and through the ally way, still no sign of cat but not sure if ive searched in the right places ?

so so sad

A bloody good reason for all dogs to be kept onlead walking on the street/housing estate/road where there are cats, other dogs, cars etc. Dogs should only be allowed offlead in the park where its safe. Its a bug bear of mine too, very cocky I think when I see it. Poor little cat :( gutted
After the last thread where a number of us made this very point all I can say is proof, if proof were needed. But, what a horrible way to have the point made. If the rest of us always keep our dog on a lead, no matter how well behaved it makes the irresponsible owner, like this boy, stand out like a sore thumb.

They can pommie and its one of my worst nightmares :( but, an unsocialised un excersised dog can lead to all sorts of problems and its not fair on those of us and our dogs, who have taken the time to choose a breed that suits there lifestyle, take the dog training, socialisation classes, walk the dog everyday, ideally twice offlead etc etc. I wish that people would research the breeds, train them, walk them, socialise them, I wish there was a dog license to pay for dog wardens (who understand dogs and actually like dogs)and I wish that it was compulsary to attend The Kennel Club Good Citizen Scheme, I wish people wouldn't buy Huskies/Border Collies/Spaniels etc who are mean't to be used for working and then not walk them at all :( Dogs are so intelligent, beautiful and loyal and we need to respect that. Unfortunately, we live in a throw away society, if it don't work out, dump it, starve it, use it as a breeding or fighting machine. A well trained dog is a joy and can totally enrich our lives, just a shame we don't do them justice.

here we go. a cat is attacked by a "pit bull" and this is, of couse, all absolutely awful. but is is just yet another trigger for the dog-haters of the forum to slip their leash and start calling for dogs to on leads at all times and probably banned from the parks (as cropped up a few years ago when the then tory-lib council came close to bringing it in). what happened to the cat was horrible, but no reason to clamp down on every dog. was it really a pit bull? more likely a staff. staffs are not popular with the peckham rye park dog walking fraternity. we can all agree that the attack on the little cat was appalling. but we should not let it hurtle away into a dog-haters jamboree

Very well said :)

Hello, first time poster and but been lurking for a bit.

There are two similar threads about dog attacks http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,964844

Surely it is not beyond the wit of those we elect to just say all dogs out in public must be muzzled? Or am I missing something?

Top Banana, welcome to the forum :)Not ALL dogs need to be muzzled But its not rocket science that something has to be done to keep these owners in line, bring back the dog license and with the revenue, employ dog wardens and make it the law that all dogs should be kept on a lead on the street, road etc,(Not in parks, they need to be allowed to run, frolic, play) muzzles not needed.

But a license will not stop a dog attacking a cat?

A license will not stop a dog attacking another dog?

A warden will not intervene in a dog fight.

Surely the best idea is to muzzle. A dog can run free off the lead, it does not affect sight or hearing dogs, and stops these attacks overnight. This is from a guy who wants a dog when he has more time to look after it, and more space than I have right now.

I fully agree with licensing, and wish it was brought back but the irresponsible don't care about licensing anyway. The Dangerous Dogs Act has had no impact whatsoever to those who don't care.

As a child we always had a dog. Now we have cats as we don't have the time to be responsible dog owners with all the attention dogs need, regular walks and a commitment to training them so that they respond to being called, don't attack other dogs, cats or people. I Totally agree that they should bring back a dog licence fee however nominal. When age 13 I had my first (mine all mine) dog (Tina) the one thing that I had to do was pay the the fee for the licence at the post office. The cost was 37p, name address and description of the dog. A dog is mans best friend so I wouldn't want some huge fee that would make dog ownership exclusive, a dog is a friend and a huge source of company whatever age you are.
jeremy both this incident and the other one (dog attacked my dog near goose green)featured dogs off lead in the street. If they had been on a lead a muzzle would have been neither here nor there. Dogs off lead on street=owner not paying attention or giving a f.

    • Surprised at how many people take the 'oooh it's great it got approved, something is better than nothing' view. This is exactly Southwark council's approach, pandering to greedy developers for the absolute bare minimum of social and affordable housing. It's exactly why, under their leadership, only a fraction of social and affordable housing has been built in the borough - weirdly Mccash chose to highlight their own failures in his 'near unprecedented' (yet unbiased 😆) submission. All the objectors i have met support redevelopment, to benefit those in need of homes and the community - not change it forever. The council could and should be bolder, demand twice the social and affordable housing in these schemes, and not concede to 8 storeys of unneeded student bedsits. If it is a question of viability, publically disclose the business plan to prove how impossible it might be to turn a profit. Once the thing is built these sites can never be used for social or affordable housing. The council blows every opportunity, every time. Its pathetic. Developers admitted the scale was, in this instance, not required for viability. The student movements data seemed completely made up. The claim that 'students are taking up private rentals' was backed up with no data. There is empty student housing on denmark hill, needs to be fixed up but it's there already built. The council allows developers years to build cosy relationships with planners such that the final decision is a formality - substantiated objections are dismissed with wooly words and BS. Key meetings and consultations are scheduled deliberately to garner minimal engagement or objection. Local councillors, who we fund, ignore their constituents concerns. Those councillors that dare waiver in the predetermination are slapped down. Not very democratic. They've removed management and accountability by having no nomination agreement with any of the 'many london universities needing accommodation' - these direct lets MAKE MORE MONEY. A privately run firm will supposedly ensure everyone that those living there is actually a student and adheres to any conduct guidelines. There's no separation to residents - especially to ones on their own development. Could go on... We'll see how many of the 53 social/affordable units that we're all so happy to have approved actually get built.
    • I am looking for 1 unit which is working for £50 cash. Thank you
    • Can’t recommend the company enough, great service.
