Briefing note

On 19th November at 14:45 hours, officers from the Met?s Violent Crime Task Force stopped a vehicle in the vicinity of Lower Road, SE16.

Two males were detained and quantity of drugs, firearm and ammunition were located. Both males were subsequently arrested and a third male ran from the vehicle in the direction of Surrey Quays Shopping Centre.

Firearms officers assisted in the search of the location including the shopping centre. Enquiries to locate the male are still ongoing and officers remain in the area.

Anyone who witnessed this incident but has not yet spoken with police is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 8904/20SEPT. Tweet @MetCC or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Briefing note

Fatal Stabbing

Detectives investigating the fatal stabbing of 25-year man in Southwark earlier this week, have arrested three people on suspicion of murder.

?

Police were called to Bramwell House, SE1, at 11:10hrs on Tuesday, 17 November, following reports that a man had been stabbed.

?

Officers attended alongside London Ambulance Service and the London Air Ambulance, but despite the efforts of the emergency services, the man, named as Richard Obi, was pronounced dead at the scene.

?

On the morning of Friday, 20 November, three women, aged 58, 34 and 30, were arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody at a south London police station.??

Briefing note

On Tuesday, 24 November, officers from the Met?s Specialist Crime South made a number of arrests for drugs supply, violence and firearms offences across south London.

?

The warrants were executed in Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham and were a culmination of a long running operation into violent crime across South London.

?

One man [A], aged 25, was arrested at an address on Gandolfi Street, SE15. He was arrested for attempted murder following a non-fatal shooting in Herne Hill on 10 September, on suspicion of supplying class B drugs and for Section 16 Firearms Offences (possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life or enable another to endanger life).

aged 29 and [C] aged 20 were arrested at an address in Denmark Hill Estate, SE5. They were also both arrested for attempted murder for the same non-fatal shooting.

?

All three have been taken into custody suites across London.

?

Detective Inspector Adam Seton, from the Specialist Crime South Proactive syndicates, said: ?Tragically this past weekend has seen two people lose their lives and another seriously injured in a shooting in east London?.

?

?We (MPS officers) are working tirelessly to tackle violent crime in London, bring those responsible to justice and ensure our communities are able go about their daily lives safely without the fear of seeing these truly distressing crimes being committed in their neighbourhoods?.

?

?We need the public to provide us with intelligence, information and names of people who may be in possession of firearms or other weapons and those committing violent crime to allow is to build strong evidential cases and remove dangerous individuals from the streets of London.?

Briefing note - Stabbing & Sec.60

Police were called just before 9.30pm to Sutherland Square, SE17, to a report of a stabbing. Officers and paramedics found a 20-year-old male with a single stab wound to their armpit.

Officers established a crime scene in Sutherland Walk and Walworth Road with East Street bus stop closed as a result.

The male was taken to a south London hospital where doctors confirmed his injuries were not life-threatening or life-changing.

Inspector Simon Blondell has authorised extra search powers under Section 60 PACE for the London Borough of Southwark, north of the A202 (Camberwell New Road, Peckham Road, Peckham High Street and Queens Road) until 7am tomorrow. This is a result of suspected ongoing tensions arising from this incident. Officers from the Territorial Support Group will carry out extra patrols in the area for reassurance.

No arrests have been made at this stage. Detectives in Central South CID have begun investigating the circumstances.

Male Stabbed ? Kingswood Estate

At about 3:10pm the London Ambulance Service and Police were called to a stabbing in Kingswood Estate, Dulwich. Officers and paramedics found 17 year old male with two stab wounds

He is being treated at a South London hospital where his condition is described as not life-threatening, or life-changing. Officers have provided aftercare to the victim to support him and his family.

?

Detectives in CID are investigating the incident and Neighbourhood officers are carrying out reassurance patrols of the area.

?

RTC ? ELEPHANT ROAD, SE17

At approximately 1655 hours today police officers attempted to stop a FORD KA vehicle in the vicinity of Elephant Road. The vehicle has failed to stop for officers and upon leaving the scene it has been involved in a collision with another vehicle.

The male driver has been arrested at the scene for a number of offences.

?

The rider of the other vehicle was injured and taken to Kings College Hospital. Injuries are not thought to be life threatening or life changing.

A scene remains in place whilst our colleagues at Roads Policing conduct enquiries into the collision.

?

Appropriate after care is being provided to the injured party and we are ensuring ongoing welfare support for the officers involved.?

On many occasions in the general ED issue/ gossip section, police or related activity is picked up and commentated on, often in a fairy speculative way. These posts, which I find informative and interesting will not infrequently also bell the cat of rumour. I would agree that they are not, at the moment, Covid related - so maybe the section is wrong, but I do think that they are of value to your normal readership (well, to me, anyway) and I would welcome their continuance somewhere. Not in the Lounge however, which would understate their importance.

Knowing what's actually going on locally, as opposed as I have said to speculation, guesswork or worse does fit into a general issues section, and gives good local background. People often ask 'what's ED like?" - this gives a feel from an authoritative source of one element of that. And no (or little) news on this front is generally good news!
