RedstarGreen
This is a couple of days ago,. My wife and I decided to take the short cut onto Dawson Hill, after celebrating relatives birthday, we walked back after midnight and a young teenage girl come running out of the park in tears, we tried to help but she ran into the flats, walking down the path on the hill we encountered a group of lads/men who were quite loud and intoxicated, we asked was the girl with them and we was told to get lost (E.D polite version), after some negiotiating and chatting some of the lads agreed to leave the darkness of the hill and a few rode home on their bikes. We could hear some more people by the trees but could not see them due to the dark, I have read on Twitter and some other social media the noise at the hill is a problem.I have some empathy for people living their lives and worked in youth services when I was younger but do not think it pleasurable to have to have sleepless evenings due to the rowdy noise..I am a Father and we have spoken to the children about been responsible in who they hang around with and where they spend their down time, Thankfully both of my children have no desire to sit on a hill in the dark. There are so many issues happening on Dawson Hill, the rubbish, the noise to homes that surround the hill.I am really concerned about the guy with long hair who has been collecting the kids rubbish every morning as he, by locals account is also friendly with the people that smoke and party on the hill and has been seeing smoking weed with them. I think that young adults are too easily exploited these days with social media without extra pressures..I will be contacting Southwark on Monday to talk through my concerns and what happened earlier this week.We was glad to guide some people off the hill, but we are not the police and these people should be moved and asked to go home by the authorities for their own safety and wellbeing. savvygirl
I'm not entirely sure where Dawson Hill/Dulwich Hill is. Is it where the flats known as Dawson Heights are? Penguin68
Yes Savvy girl, my wife pointed out my errors Dawson Hill not Dulwich Hill, the park and hill area behind Dawson Heights flats. It's a very easy mistake to make, if it's a mistake at all - Dawson Heights sits in the centre (well, almost) of the Dulwich Hill Ward - I can't think of anything else which would qualify to gift the ward its name. Pugwash
In reply to penguin68I am the chair of the Dulwich Hill neighbourhood police team - we usually meet at Christ Church Barry Road but with lockdown etc and ban on meetings, we are not sure when we are able to meet again. Christ Church is anticipated to reopen in September. You have been complaining about people perfectly legally gathering on public land for a couple of months now, and as you can see it hasnt and wont change the situation- and rightfully so. Perhaps you should proactively think of solutions that will make your life easier, instead of continuing this campaign and wasting the Police, Council and many others time. dontbesilly
I went up here last night, and it was perfectly peaceful, with groups of older teens sitting and chilling on the grass quietly. In fact, they even actually intervened when a couple of older men started loudly talking about starting a fire.Im going to go up there more often on these sunny evenings- i normally go to Peckham Rye, but at least here the bin was not full so i didnt have to leave my empty beer cans on the floor beside the bin, as is on the Rye. courgette
Thank you RedstarGreen for starting the post and chatting to the people on the hill that have made it their place to make noise and no care for surrounding homes, Hubby said I should join the chats as the noise every or most nights is unbearable, in regards to the earlier post about the Man (Long Hair) that collects the rubbish after the people in the morning or night?, Yes he is well known to the mums at the School who said he spends alot of time on the hill and mixes with the Children and walks his dog, yes i agree RedstarGreen its time for devisive action from the authorities Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/258188-dawson-hill-situation/#findComment-1437221 Share on other sites
Penguin68
Devisive action is what we might expect, but I doubt but that decisive action will be beyond them. RedstarGreen
I was passing through Dawson Hill on my bike and noticed some large sofas and various chairs that are positioned on the grass area, no doubt this contributed to the noisy crowds hanging around late last night. Does anyone know of a number/contact at the Council or Parks team to arrange their collection, as this dumping of furniture is only going to encourage people to camp out all night, adding to an already horrible situation for local residents. As a Neighbourhood watch, be really useful to keep an eye if we see any persons brining unwanted furniture to the park and report it straight away. What did you do in the summer holidays when you were a child. Sit quietly indoors and only speak when spoken to? The proper council estates of Peckham and Brixton, i.e where the majority of residents are council housed rather than middle class people who bought it off the original owners after right to buy (like at Dawsons heights), have big parties with massive souundsystems and untold noise every time the sun comes out, the helicopters overhead are a sign of this. That would be a horrible situation. So stop sensationalising something so trivial and perhaps recognise that bored teenagers have every right to gather on public land and socialise, even if the curtain twitchers dont approve. tiddles
I have walked up there a couple of evenings (with the dog) and both times it all seemed very quiet and chilled. This was at dusk - does it all kick off later? just a lovely place to sit and look at the view.
