Dulwich Plumbing and Heating

We were on holiday when a water pipe burst under our new kitchen floor. Our cat sitter found Daniel

on the Forum and on the phone he kindly explained to her how to turn the mains water off from the road. He then

arrived with his brother and identified quickly where the leak was coming from and caused minimal damage to our new oak

kitchen floor. I have since used his recommended plumber for the servicing of our boiler, Dave. As friendly and reliable

as Daniel. Great find!

My experience with Daniel from Dulwich Plumbing and Heating 07879 220447 and 07852 757 654 is so far negative:

3 Sep I have a drip from hot water pipe. He comes out same-day. He tells me the fee is not per-hour but per-job (i.e. I can't get him to do any other work for the fee.) The job is said by me as "fix the drip". He puts plumbers tape on a nut. I pay him. Later that day, I notice that the drip is in no way improved and text him. He agrees to come at a certain time the next day.

4 Sep After the appointment time (I've already taken trouble to be in) he texts to say he won't come and can he come tomorrow. We arrange for another time the next day

5 Sep Again I take trouble to be in. He doesn't show, doesn't text, doesn't answer various calls, doesn't answer my text asking what's happened to appointment

6 Sep He answers a call (I used the other number) and says he can't come today, and will call me in the morning of the next day.

7 Sep He doesn't call in the morning. He rejects a call just after the morning, texting that he is stuck on a job. I text back trying to arrange an appointment. I receive "Ok I'll text you later".

9 Sep I again text trying to arrange an appointment but no reply.

I state only facts above. Please draw your own conclusions about the behaviour.

My experience with Daniel from Dulwich Plumbing and Heating is also negative. I called him after reading good reviews on this forum but he was very unrealiable and unprofessional.

On a Thursday in a very cold spell back in Feb my boiler broke down.

I phoned Daniel that day and told me that he will send a plumber that day. No one turned up and they didn't bother to call me to let me know.

I called again on Friday and he then said a plumber will come the following day, Friday. A plumber came in the evening (an hour later than what they said) and after spending 10 minutes moving the boiler pressure gauge (he didn't even opened the case of the boiler which is the first thing I would've expected from a boiler engineer)he decided that an specialist was needed to look at the problem.

He said he would call me to let me know when the specialist plumber for my type of boiler could come. He charged me for whatever he did (with no receipt). I reminded him that I had no hot water or central heating so if he could get the plumber ugently it would be great. He later texted me that the earliest the plumber come come would be on Monday eve.

As you can imagine I was not happy with this so I called Daniel the following day Saturday and explained that I couldn't be for 4 days without a working bolider in the middle of a cold spell and if he could do something to send the plumber earlier. His response was not very sympathetic, he said that Monday eve was the earliest that he could do to send a plumber.

I wished he had told me that before and not late afternoon on a Saturday. I had to find another plumber who was able to come on Sunday and got my boiler working.

After numeous attempts to get a refund for what I paid them for not fixing anything and Daniel making excuses and not responding to my calls I gave up on the idea of getting a refund.

I will never use them again and I'm certainly not recommending them to my friends.

I have posted several times about this company as nearly a year on im still getting other people in to fix what should have been a v straightforward job. I now have to take off the panels he eventually put in properly (after several attempts!), to tighten the plug which was not fitted properly under the bath. Have already had to reseal his work. Grrrr

Spending another afternoon working on the bodged job of fitting a bath by these guys. They left a large gap between the bath and the wall so no seal will hold. Grrrr

Edited to add...

Just found out that he did not plumb in the overflow and it's been going onto the floor for nearly a year.

I have used Daniel and his colleagues through 2013 and they have never failed to attend or complete a job.

Many thanks Daniel for all your hard work and I wish you all the best for 2014. Thank you and your crew for always being polite, punctual, efficient, clean and responsible, and getting the job done without fuss! I wish all workmen were like your lot and as reasonably priced.

Thanks for also for coming out at unsociable hours when I asked in 2013. Hopefully I won't need you as much in 2014!

Re Corenza's message.

What a load of tosh.

Why on earth would you be bothered to write in to praise a plumber over work carried out last year, if you did not in xome way have an interest in Dulwich Plumbing.

What is patently obvious from ALL the posts, positive and negative is:

a) Daniel is very charming;

b) He is very very prompt to arrive to do enough to get paid...but NOT to return in case of complaints;

c) the majority of the jobs he carries out are bog standard and don't really require much plumbing expertise (see the amount of blocked loos, drains, plumbing in washing machines, small leaks, etc.

What is effectively happening in my opinion is that Daniel is making an extremely lucrative living by acting as a call out plumber and charging emergencty rates during normal hours. Note the amount of posts (nearly all of them) that say things to the effect that he was contactd at 10am and came at 11, for eg. This is also presumably why he is leaving jobs in the middle of them, bodging jobs etc etc....he is rushing off to the next emergency. He is effectively counting on peoples anxiety about water damage, turning a problem into a crisis and therefore banking on people feeliong relieved and satified if it does atually get fixed. Unfortunately it is clear that on a number of occasions it does not get fixed.

I never received an invoice for the work carried out for me, but to regrout (unsuccessfully) round the side of a bath cost me ?150. Daniel will know whether he pays VAT and Income Tax on uninvoiced for work.

I too can second that these guys are absolutely AWFUL and if you have any sense do not waste your money on them, they are as far as I am aware not recognised by the CIPHE. Their sole advising seems to be on the EDF and mums net...just look at some of the posts and some users have even posted pictures of the condition that their houses have been left in by these guys, I really feel that they give decent tradesmen a bad name.

    • Yes, they thanked me for pointing out the errors of their ways and agreed never to do it again.  Or maybe not.  There was also two scenes when I asked drivers to turn their engines off when sitting idling by Peckham Rye.  I wont recount the tale but they did not appreciate my request.  I've long since given up.  My experience was similar to Nigel Havers, "go forth and multiply". https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p04qrnh6 I also used to fantasise about putting a potato in the exhaust.  Gone are the days when you could kill the occupants through carbon monoxide poisoning as the levels are relatively low.  Not oxides of nitrogen though.
    • Hi everyone, We’re currently looking to upgrade our front door and are leaning towards something with a Victorian style to suit our home in South East London. While doing some research, I came across Victorian Front Door Company (https://www.victorianfrontdoor.co.uk), and their doors look absolutely stunning. Has anyone here used their services before? If so, I’d love to hear about your experience! How was the process, and are you happy with the final result? Looking forward to any insights or other recommendations for suppliers in the area. Thanks in advance! 😊
    • I saw couple of people in hi-vis jackets, hard hats putting a ladder up against the sign on my way out early evening 9th October. On my way back I looked at the sign and (it took me a few seconds!) spotted the change.
    • Our Australian friend wants to use google maps on his Ozzie iphone in London without using up his international data - I’m sure some of you can advise how he can do this ( before tomorrow morning?!)   thanks
