Mcad87
Hi all,Just a quick transport related question. I've recently got a new job working with The Financial Times up at Southwark Bridge and wanted to know what the best/quickest/cheapest way to get there would be? A few friends suggested catching the train from East Dulwich to London Bridge, even though it's quite a bit of walking it sounds like the quickest way. I got a bus up there for my interview and it took forever! Does anyone know the ticket prices/ monthly ticket cost? I have a pay and go oyster at the moment and don't want to have to fork out the ?120 a month for a travel card. Thanks in advance for any suggestions,Matt Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25691-train-fare-ed-to-london-bridge/ Share on other sites
stacker285
If you go to the national rail website you can put your journey in their season ticket calculator. You can get tickets for just the journey you want. Looks like just over ?60 a month.http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/seasonticket/tickets Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25691-train-fare-ed-to-london-bridge/#findComment-577880 Share on other sites
Mcad87
Ah that's very helpful. Thanks a lot Stacker285! That's half the price of the oyster travel card, so certainly seems like the most sensible option.Matt Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25691-train-fare-ed-to-london-bridge/#findComment-577884 Share on other sites
Loz
Try the TFL journey planner - it will tell you the quickest route and what combination of transport/walking you need.http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/ Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25691-train-fare-ed-to-london-bridge/#findComment-577890 Share on other sites
the-e-dealer
If you are only using trains get a SEASON ticket NOT a TRAVEL CARD! I save ?400 a year by doing this plus you can go via almost any route without being done for crossing zones. Which I have been done for using a Travelcard. Mcad87
Thanks Loz and the-e-dealer - really useful to know. Saving ?400 a year sounds perfect to me to be honest and the extra walking should help me out in the fitness department. Cheers! Mcad87
I think you deserve one after that! It even works out cheaper than using my PAYG Oyster. Good times. the-e-dealer
Sadly it shows that though we have no tube we are expected to pay as if we had the tube criss crossing southwark Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25691-train-fare-ed-to-london-bridge/#findComment-577952 Share on other sites
Mcad87
Now that is something I would be happy to pay for. Can't believe it takes me nearly an hour to get up to central London on the 176 everyday. I have to say I loathe that bus, always appears at random times, always busy unless I go into work an hour early and no matter which one I get the drivers always seem to change on Medlar Street in Camberwell... and everyone sits and waits for ten minutes or so. God I miss my car sometimes! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/25691-train-fare-ed-to-london-bridge/#findComment-577956 Share on other sites
the-e-dealer
There should be a NO Tube Travelcard. Until there is Season tickets coupled with oyster PAYG are often a MUCH better deal. adamj85
I have decided to give a monthly season ticket a trial to see if I use tubes and buses enough to warrant a zone 1-2 travel card instead. ? How flexible are the tickets in travelling into London terminals? Will I be able to travel to London Bridge from Denmark Hill with my monthly season ticket? i.e. I am assuming E.D to Peckham Rye and then Peckham Rye to Victoria via Denmark Hill is acceptable?Any help is appreciated! Mcad87
Yes, thanks to everyone for their comments - I'm going to get a season ticket and keep my PAYG Oyster for random trips. the-e-dealer
He has a season not a travelcard paying bus fare would defeat the entire purpose of saving cash.
