Gloves
Hello, we are wondering what secondary school options are available and likely to get in for people living on the Hornimans end of Underhill Road? Not ruling out and independent school, but wondering if Charter or Kingsdale are in the catchment?Any advice greatly received.Regards, Gloves Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/256857-secondary-schools-for-people-living-on-underhill/ Share on other sites
Monkey
Charter won?t stretch that far, I?m afraid. You have Sydenham School for girls, and Forest Hill boys. Kingsdale is a complete lottery so your postcode is irrelevant. savage
Harris boys & girls would be an option as well as St. Thomas the apostle (boys school). Kingsdale is always worth a try as it?s lottery. You could also try Harris Crystal Palace which is also a lottery, but quite a slim chance as they only offer a small percentage of places to children who live more than 2 miles away Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/256857-secondary-schools-for-people-living-on-underhill/#findComment-1433238 Share on other sites
chickenteeka
Harris Boys and Girls are terrific schools, we are lucky to have them on our doorstep. kir
Agreed STAC, Harris Girls, boys - great schools - check out their Ofsted reports - even better make a visit, talk to staff and pupils-don't rely on historic reputation...We are really lucky to have them on our doorstep! Renata Hamvas
Agree with the above, for up to age 16, your options will predominantly be single sex with mixed sixth forms. Harris Boys and Girls, STAC, Sydenham Girls and Forest Hill Boys. You may get in to Kingsdale via their lottery system. Deptford Green could also be a mixed option with travel by train. If you child is musical there are also the options of Haberdashera Aske's and Prendergast.Renata Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/256857-secondary-schools-for-people-living-on-underhill/#findComment-1435374 Share on other sites
pk
for completeness, STAC is a church school and (i think) is able to fill its intake with pupils who can meet the school's religion criteria so this isnt an option for many/most Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/256857-secondary-schools-for-people-living-on-underhill/#findComment-1435416 Share on other sites
Coach Beth
STAC is Catholic but has a considerable number of children at the school who are other faiths or no faiths My son was accepted there a few years ago and we were told by the headteacher at the time that 50% of student body were not catholic - in the end, we were also offered Charter East Dulwich (it was the first year of the school). We decided on Charter ED as it was nearer and we liked the idea of the small size of the year 7 class but we were very impressed by STAC. JEG1
STAC is worth a try. Although it's oversubscribed, it is not oversubscribed for the Catholic criteria. They welcome boys from other faiths, and then the next criteria is distance from school. I know boys who got in this year who are not Catholic. Dodo1
Don't assume all schools choose by distance! For example if you have a boy and you are Catholic you can apply for Cardinal Vaughn in Holland Park (Times secondary school of the year 2018).Check the criteria- you never know.
