Marmora Man
In the days when a brand retained its identity for years, companies used to paint sides of houses with adverts. There's one in Camberwell as you approach the Green from Denmark hill - "Don't be vague - ask for Haig".Are there any other examples out there? alba
Not an ad. But has anyone noticed "Big Dave's Gusset" written large on a derelict warehouse that you see from the train as you approach Charing X?It's been there for years. What does it mean? (it's on the lhs, not far from Borough as you leave London Bridge heading for Charing X. There's a deserted yard and it's written on a tumbledown shack) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/2561-old-adverts/#findComment-77796 Share on other sites
Peckhamgatecrasher
In the same vein, there was a "George Davis is innocent" in the Old Kent Road last time I looked. philiphenslowe
Does anyone remember when 'Chamber Gay' started to appear all round East Dulwich and Peckham Rye in the early 1980s? But that was graffiti of course. There are some of those old ad signs on houses in Peckham High St, near Manzes. There must be a book with London ones in?I also love murals on the sides of houses like Hokusai's Great Wave in Coldharbour Lane and the Jackson Pollack one that used to be in Queens Road.
