I went to a local ED newsagents to buy a first class stamp and the woman behind the counter tried selling it to me for ?1. It is meant to be 76 pence. She tried justifying the 30% mark up as it's a Cash & Carry. There doesn't seem to be any law against hiking the price of a postage stamp but what she failed to recognise is she'd have made a bigger profit on the father's day card I was about to purchase if she'd sold it at face value like her associates in that same shop have done in the past. I honestly didn't know a local business was willing to fleece it's previously loyal customer.

seems to depend on whether they brought them from the royal mail or somewhere else (article a little old) as they could be breaking the terms and conditions of their agreement with royal mail (but not the law).
